LOST was one of the most popular TV shows of the 90s, lasting six series.

The ABC show told the story of survivors of a plane crash who were stranded on a mysterious island.

In the long-running show, the cast has been forced to work together to survive as they realize they are not alone.

Actress Maggie Grace, 40, played the role of Shannon Rutherford in the first two series of the show before her character was axed.

She has now opened up about her departure from Lost, as the TV star admitted she was devastated.

Maggie explained: “I thought they were going to take it a little further. It’s still the worst heartbreak of my career. I was devastated!”

The actress also admitted how she felt the character could have developed on screen following her premature exit from the series.

“[She] it was kind of a caricature of white privilege before it was a phrase, you know? And maybe I was too good at the job I was assigned to be incredibly boring,” she explained.

“I thought maybe she would do something surprising or wear another color [to her personality]. Maybe she would, at the last moment, redeem herself and be incredibly self-sacrificial in some way.”

She added: “I think there were flashes of that, but not in the way I expected in terms of the arc.

“This is the point of view of a selfish actor. They definitely had bigger fish to fry.”

In Lost, the character was the half-sister of a plane crash companion survivor Boone Carlyle (Ian Somerhalder).

Together, the two relatives survived the accident involving Oceanic Flight 815 and were trapped on the island.

During her two series of the show, her character was known for her romantic relationship with castaway Sayid Jarrah (Naveen Andrews).

She was killed by Ana Lucia Cortez (Michelle Rodriguez), who accidentally shot her in a case of mistaken identity.

Since then, the actress has been busy working on a variety of television and film projects.

She starred in three series of Fear the Walking Dead on AMC, as well as other shows like The Althea Tapes and Masters of Sex.

Film projects include Faster alongside Dwayne Johnson, Aftermath with Arnold Schwarzenegger and both Breaking Dawn installments in the Twilight Saga.
