The emergency room surgeon will be leaving Gaffney Chicago Medical Center in the near future as Dominic Rains is leaving the show, as reported by Deadline.

Although it is not yet known whether the Agents of SHIELD actor will reprise the character as a guest in the upcoming 10th season, it was the season 9 finale of Chicago Med that opened Crockett’s exit from Rains.

In the season finale, Sharon Goodwin (S. Epatha Merkerson) told Crockett to take all the time she needed following the death of one of her patients, a child and the boy’s father.

The boy died after Crockett canceled a planned liver transplant due to an infection, ignoring his father’s pleas to go ahead with surgery to save his son’s life.

After the boy’s death, the father, devastated by the loss of his son, committed suicide.

The news of the boy’s death, along with the boy’s father, disturbed Crockett as it brought back memories of losing his daughter to leukemia.

Chicago Med, which follows the daily chaos of the city’s newest state-of-the-art trauma center and the lives of its doctors, nurses and staff, is undergoing a major transition next fall.

Co-showrunners Diane Frolov and Andy Schneider are stepping down after nine years and being succeeded by Allen MacDonald.

THE RETURN OF THE TEE?

Earlier this month, Chicago Med star Brian Tee, 47, teased a possible return for his character after leaving the series in 2022.

He previously played Dr. Ethan Choi on the series for nearly eight seasons.

Since leaving, the actor has returned to the NBC drama to direct two episodes.

In terms of his character, Brian recently teased that fans could see more of Dr. Choi in the future during an interview at the Gotham TV Awards.

“There is always talk [about] returning to the screen”, said the actor TV line.

“It’s interesting. I think every season Chicago Med goes through a certain amount of flux.

“But I can come back and act with the entire cast and crew on the director’s side.

“So we will always start that conversation, and if the right time or the right story comes along, maybe it will happen.

“So it’s one of those things you never say goodbye to,” he joked.

THINKING OUT LOUD

Brian also proposed an idea of the type of story setting needed for his character to return to the series.

“I think the hospital probably needs help. Some kind of tragedy is about to happen, some kind of great catastrophe drama,” Brian guessed.

A Chicago

The Chicago franchise consists of four shows created by Dick Wolf, Michael Brandt and Derek Haas.

  • Chicago Fire – series that premiered in 2012
  • Chicago PD – a Chicago Fire spinoff that began in 2014
  • Chicago Med – a Chicago Fire spinoff that began in 2015
  • Chicago Justice – a Chicago PD spinoff that was canceled in 2017

“Maybe they’ll bring back me, Will Halstead and April and bring back some of the old team to fix things the way they were.”

With some experience under his belt, Brian also said he would be interested in expanding his directing resume to other series in the Chicago franchise.

“That would be my next thing. It’s not on the agenda yet. I mean, it’s on the agenda for me, I hope. So we’ll see,” she explained.

“Everyone there, even PD and Fire, are doing an incredible job. And I know it’s much more difficult to film because they film outside.

“We at Chicago Med stay indoors most of the time. So this will be much more of an adventure as far as my directing goes,” he continued.
