Selena Gomez fans were divided over Emmy nomination for Only Murders in the Building after being snubbed for two seasons

SELENA Gomez has been nominated for her first Emmy Award for her role in Only Murders in the Building, and some fans are divided.

The actress was nominated for Best Actress in a Comedy Series for her role as Mabel Mora in Season 3 of the Hulu series.

The 2024 Primetime Emmy Awards nominations were revealed on Wednesday.

Only Murders in the Building, which premiered on the streaming platform in 2021, also stars Martin Short, 74, and Steve Martin, 78.

After Selena, 31, was listed as one of the nominees for her performance in the series, fans immediately shared their divided reactions on social media.

The Hollywood star has already received two Emmy nominations for her role as producer of the series.

Some people were shocked, with one person asking, “Did Selena Gomez get an Emmy nomination??” alongside a GIF of a confused influencer.

Others believed the Disney Channel star deserved the honor.

“Finally! Selena Gomez earns her first #Emmy nomination as an actress – an honor that was long overdue. She is the heart and soul of ‘Only Murders in the Building’. This should have happened 3 seasons ago,” wrote a second .

“It took three seasons of Only Murders in the Building for Selena Gomez to finally get a Comedy Actress nomination at the #Emmy,” noted a third.

Another person, however, wrote that “Selena’s nomination is the biggest proof that the Emmys are a success this year.”

Following Wednesday’s announcement, Selena reshared an article about her acting nomination on Instagram with an additional crying face emoji.

Selena’s mother, Mandy Teefey, expressed her excitement over her daughter’s achievement, sharing a sweet sentiment on her Instagram Stories.

Mandy reshared the same article, adding: “MOM TEARS!!!! I have no words to describe how she surprises me every day!! XO.”

Selena’s boyfriend, Benny Blanco, 36, also shared the news of the nomination on his Instagram Stories.

Best Actress in a Comedy Series 2024 Emmy nominations

Along with Selena, other nominees in the category included Quinta Brunson for Abbott Elementary, Ayo Edebiri for The Bear, Maya Rudolph for Loot, Jean Smart for Hacks and Kristin Wiig for Palm Royale.

The nomination comes after Selena took home the Best Actress award at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival earlier this year.

Selena won for her performance in the musical comedy Emilia Pérez, historically sharing the award with co-stars Zoe Saldaña, Adriana Paz and Karla Sofía Gascón.
