CBS fans are increasingly worried about the fate of one of the network’s most beloved shows.
NCIS: Hawai’i has not yet been officially renewed or canceled, despite its sister show, the flagship series NCIS, receiving a renewal earlier this month.
The NCIS spinoff premiered in 2021 and is currently in its third season.
The criminal case finds Jane Tennant (Vanessa Lachey) leading a team of Naval Criminal Investigative Service agents in Hawaii.
Cast members also include Alex Tarrant (Kai Holman), Noah Mills (Jesse Boone), Yasmine Al-Bustami (Lucy Tara), Jason Antoon (Ernie Malik) and Tori Anderson (Kate Whistler).
Most recently, LL Cool J joined the cast on a recurring basis as his NCIS: Los Angeles character, Sam Hanna.
A few weeks ago, CBS renewed NCIS for another season, bringing it back for a 22nd season, but the network didn’t share any updates on the fate of NCIS: Hawaii at that time.
Fans quickly became concerned about the future of the drama and wondered if it might be canceled.
Some suggested the network was waiting until the big celebration of the franchise’s 1,000th episode for its flagship series, but that aired earlier this week and still no news about the spinoff has been revealed.
This caused viewers to worry even more about the show’s fate and beg CBS to renew it for a 4th season.
READY FOR GOOD NEWS
One fan asked on an online forum, “Given that NCIS was renewed along with the three FBI shows, is this an indication that we should be worried about NCIS Hawaii being canceled?”
“For the past 2 years, NCIS Hawaii has been renewed in March,” the user added.
The spinoff series was renewed for Season 2 on March 31, 2022, and then renewed for Season 3 on February 21, 2023.
“It hasn’t been renewed yet and it hasn’t been cancelled, so it’s still possible,” replied one fan.
A second warned: “There could be a riot if the franchise’s first minority, POC female-led show was NOT renewed. Just saying.”
“It wouldn’t look good if it wasn’t announced when the NCIS renewal was announced or when the 1,000th episode aired,” wrote another concerned viewer.
A fourth confused fan asked: “What better occasion could there be than airing the 1,000th episode of NCIS?”
GROWING FRANCHISE
In addition to NCIS and NCIS: Hawai’i, the franchise also includes NCIS: Sydney and has two more shows in the works.
A prequel series, NCIS: Origins, will focus on young Leroy Jethro Gibbs (Austin Stowell), who was played in the original show by Mark Harmon.
A spinoff show about NCIS characters Tony (Michael Weatherly) and Ziva (Cote de Pablo) is also in the works.
Although it has now ended, the franchise previously included NCIS: New Orleans, which aired from 2014 to 2021, and NCIS: Los Angeles, which aired from 2019 to 2023.
