ABC has pulled the plug on the comedy series Forgive & Forget, which starred and executive produced by Modern Family star Ty Burrell.

According to Deadlinethe pilot received a positive signal, however, the network ultimately decided against the show because it was too “dark.”

The subject of Forgive & Forget revolves around Alzheimer’s disease.

The show was set to follow Hank, played by Ty, who receives an “unexpected diagnosis.”

“Hank reconnects with his responsible adult son, Ben, in hopes of creating new memories together,” the outlet states.

The show was inspired by Forgive & Forget TV writer Eugine Garcia-Cross’ own experience dealing with a father who had Alzheimer’s.

Eugine hoped to “destigmatize a disease that afflicted millions” using comedy.

Alongside Ty, Modern Family co-creator Christopher Lloyd was hired as a consultant.

In addition to the show’s plot, the project reportedly faced a number of challenges.

After the pilot table read, the show had to recast Ben’s role.

Disney+’s Big Comedy Was Abruptly Halted After Just Two Series Left Fans Devastated

Forgive & Forget’s departure comes after ABC parent Disney pulled the plug on Amy Schumer’s show Life & Beth.

Similar to the ABC show, the comedy series Life & Beth dealt with a woman confronting her past and reevaluating her future after a series of events.

Before being cancelled, the show had two successful seasons.

TARGET OF FANS

Following the news about Forgive & Forget, fans rushed to social media to express their disbelief.

Many begged the network to “bring back” Ty for a different show.

“Bring Burrell back with something quality ASAP,” said one fan.

Ty Burrell Career

Although Ty is famous for his role on Modern Family, the Oregon native has built an impressive acting resume over the years.

2001 – Evolution

2001 – Black Falcon in Peril

2004 – Dawn of the Dead

2008 – The Incredible Hulk

2009 – Moden Family

2010 – Morning Glory

2014 – The Muppets Most Wanted

2016 – Finding Dory

2020 – Duncanville

“His comedic talent and incredible tumbling ability and physical talents – trapeze, unicycle, tightrope, post-Taser stagger/seizure, etc. – are unbelievable.”

“How dare ABC take that pilot away from Phil Dunphy,” wrote another, referring to Ty’s character on Modern Family.

“Oh he’s a talent,” commented a third, while a fourth wrote: “NOOOOOOOOOO.”

Although Forgive & Forget was axed, Deadline mentioned that Disney has plans for the Modern Family star.

Apparently, there are talks about other series opportunities starring Ty.
