Contestants who make it to the last round of the game show can choose their puzzle category and spin the famous Wheel of Fortune.

Wheel of Fortune host Pat Sajak, 77, gives them the standard letters R, S, T, L, N and E and then asks the player to choose three consonants and a vowel.

Which consonants for the final puzzle a contestant chooses doesn’t normally bother viewers, but that wasn’t the case this month.

Some revealed in a Reddit thread that if a contestant chooses the What Are You Doing puzzle category, they won’t need to ask for a certain consonant.

That consonant was the letter G.

“This keeps happening and it’s driving me crazy. In the final puzzle, if the clue is ‘What are you doing?’ and the initial letters read _ _ _ _ _ n_, the last letter is obviously a G,” said a Wheel of Fortune watcher on the forum.

Each contestant sees this and chooses G as one of their consonants. It’s a waste of a letter.”

They shouted, “You KNOW this card is there. Choose a card that gives you more information!!!”

There were countless people who supported the furious fan’s reaction.

“My mom and I scream at the screen every time this happens,” another fumed.

“Biggest pet peeve of the show,” a third person added.

VERY UNNECESSARY

A number of fans theorized on the game show thread that any puzzle in the What Are You Doing category would end in the -ING suffix.

Therefore, it would not be necessary to choose G for a consonant.

“ALL ‘What are you doing?’ answers end in ING. Try answering this question with a word that ends differently,” explained a Reddit user.

Wheel of Fortune Host Timeline

Debuting in 1975, the beloved game show has had a few different iconic hosts over its nearly 50 seasons.

“Therefore, you should not choose I or G, but focus on other letters.”

“And it seems like the puzzle writers know this and plan for it – there is almost never a second G in the puzzle,” proposed another person.

“I usually say ‘watch them pick G… wait…’” joked someone else.

Although some thought G was a waste of a letter if the category was What are you doing in the final puzzle, few disagreed.

IT COULD WORK

“My opinion and I think the contestants’ strategy is to pick a letter that you know will almost certainly be there, because if it’s in one position, it could be in others,” one fan pointed out.

“I’d rather pick a card that’s guaranteed to be there than pick a card that isn’t there.”

A second person insisted: “Honestly saying it’s a wasted lyric is a very common fallacy. Just because there’s a G at the end of the word ‘ING’ doesn’t mean there won’t be a G elsewhere.

Even if you suspect there is an additional G, just filling in the space with a letter can help fill a mental gap.”

Another shared: “They should absolutely choose G because it’s guaranteed and could be somewhere else.”

On Reddit, several complained about how it wasn't smart for the contestants to choose G as the consonant if the last category of the puzzle was What are you doing?

This meant that there would be a high probability that G would not be put into the puzzle again, so choosing G would be a waste of a letter.
