Danger! Masters Season 2 starts in less than a week and it looks to be a drag.

The candidates are Masters Season 1 champion James Holzhauer, last year’s finalists Matt Amodio and Mattea Roach, producer’s choice Amy Schneider and newcomers Yogesh and Victoria Groce.

The six current top-ranked contestants will face off in two matches in each hour-long episode.

On Thursday, the game show revealed the first two matches of its debut and the format of its premiere. website.

Here’s who’s facing who and how it’ll all work out.

MASTERS MATCHUPS

Mattea will face Matt and Victoria in the first quarterfinal match.

Later, in the same episode, James will face Yogesh and Amy.

James changed his contestant bio from “self-proclaimed game show villain” to “self-proclaimed ‘final boss’.”

The rest of the matchups will be determined by who wins, and each victory will give that player a certain number of points.

WHAT IS IT: THE FORMAT?

Danger! also revealed how the special will work this time.

The Masters will begin with six quarterfinal episodes and 12 matches where no one will be eliminated.

Then, the semi-finals will begin on Friday, May 17, after the fifth and sixth placed teams have been eliminated.

The final will air on May 22nd. Two matches between the three finalists will determine the winner based on the highest accumulated score.

The Masters grand prize is $500,000, a flashy Alex Trebek trophy and the Jeopardy! Master Champion.

Episodes will air at 8pm, but don’t worry, they won’t interfere with normal gameplay, and both the regular show and Masters will air on those nights.

MEET THE MASTERS

James, a 32-time winner and poker pro, won Master Season 1 with ease and lost just one game.

Mattea, a 23-time winner, returns as runner-up and almost defeated James in the final, who until then had shown no signs of problems.

Matt, a 38-time winner, came third last year and was the only player to score a win against James in the entire feature.

“I feel like a stronger competitor,” Amodio said in preparation at a recent event attended by The US Sun.

Amy, a 40-time champion, came fifth last year and also lost the recent JIT to Victoria – she was chosen as Producer’s Choice.

Meanwhile, Yogesh punched his ticket by winning the 2024 Tournament of Champions.

Victoria won Jeopardy’s Invitational Tournament against Amy and Andrew He, which is no small feat.

The lead-up to the Masters wasn’t without drama, as fans were surprised that Amy was named Producer’s Choice.

Amy recently and decisively lost Jeopardy! Invitational Tournament for Groce, only for both to advance to the Masters anyway.

This also means that Masters 2024 will only have two debutants (JIT winner Groce and 2024 ToC winner Yogesh) instead of three.

“How do you have a tournament that eliminates people from the masters, but still chooses them…” one fan reacted to the news.

“For the record, as a huge fan of Amy… I’m not a huge fan of this choice. It’s a predictable choice and I just don’t know if its gameplay will compare to the other five,” wrote another.

“So what was the point of JIT,” asked a third.

WHO WILL WIN?

The Queen of the Chase got everyone excited after her big JIT win earlier this month, and fans think she could even dethrone James.

The clash comes as they co-star on ABC’s sister show as experts.

On a Jeopardy-themed Reddit forum, viewers shared their picks and many chose James to beat the competition. However, newcomer Victoria may give James a run for her money.

“Victoria really impressed me with her buzzer skills when she was on Jeopardy’s Invitational Tournament,” one fan wrote.

“James has an overwhelming lead in the poll, but I think Victoria will surprise people.”

“For buzzer success (not attempts), Victoria has the advantage. James was just buzzing when he knew the answer,” one commenter added.

Danger! airs at 7pm ET on ABC, while Masters airs at 8pm throughout May – check your local listings.
