The JEOPARDY Masters! were criticized by fans for not naming well-known actor Robert Mitchum – despite being helped by two photos.

Ken Jennings presents the $500,000 six-champion special and bragging rights.

The photo clue read: 'He played a sinister preacher in Night of The Hunter and a revenge-seeking ex-con in Cape Fear'

Danger! Season 2 of the Masters kicked off Wednesday night on ABC with two matches in one hour.

In the first game, Mattea Roach and Matt Amodio were defeated by newcomer and Invitational Tournament winner Victoria Groce.

In the second game, James Holzhauer and Amy Schneider were taken down by fellow rookie and Tournament of Champions winner Yogesh Raut, which surprised fans.

But the two newcomers’ dominance over the better-known players wasn’t the only shock of the night.

In the first game, Mattea selected the “Classic Movies” clue for $800, which was a photo clue.

Ken read: “He played a sinister preacher in Night of The Hunter and a revenge-seeking ex-con in Cape Fear.”

The track showed the iconic photo of Mitchum in the old 1955 film noir with his “Love” and “Hate” tattoos on his fingers – and one of him in Cape Fear.

None of the Masters cared, and Amodio looked especially perplexed, with a shrunken expression.

“Ooh,” Ken exclaimed when the time was up. “You’re looking at Robert Mitchum.”

‘EMBARRASSING’

Fans took to social media, calling out the show’s best and brightest players for the egregious error.

“The Jeopardy masters don’t know who Robert Mitchum is. embarrassing

“I can’t believe those three heavyweights didn’t recognize Robert Mitchum. Many of the ones they got were real ass busters, so it was a surprise to see them lose a softball track like this.

“Yes, that was a big surprise, especially since the photo of him with LOVE and HATE on his knuckles is quite widespread.

“When Ken mentioned Night of the Hunter and Cape Fear, that was a bigger help to me than the image personally. I knew immediately it was him, these are probably his two best-known films.”

“Trebek would have refused to call them masters after that.”

‘LORD HELP US’

This wasn’t the only groan of the night, as another clue rocked social media by asking about Generation Alpha’s terms.

The clue read: “Slang like ‘fanum tax’ and ‘skibidi’ confuses many; it is associated with this generation, a name that inappropriately follows Gen Z.”

The correct answer was “Gen Alpha,” and although it was successful, fans felt their brain cells shrinking when it aired.

“Just saw the skibidi bathroom mentioned during Jeopardy, day ruined,” wrote one X user.

“Where were you when Ken Jennings said Fanum tax and Skibidi live on TV on Jeopardy masters,” wrote another.

“They used the words ‘skibidi’ and ‘fanum tax’ in danger, we are DONE,” wrote a third.

“No way Ken Jennings just had to say ‘skibidi’ and ‘fanum tax’ on Jeopardy,” wrote a fourth.

“Lord save us, Jeopardy now has a Skibidi Toilet clue,” wrote a fifth.

STAY INFORMED ON MASTERS 2024

Masters begins with six quarterfinal episodes in 12 matches where no one is eliminated.

Each game will have the winner with three points, second place with one and third place with zero.

Who advances and who is eliminated depends on who has the most points.

After the elimination of the fifth and sixth placed teams, two semi-final episodes will begin on Friday, May 17th.

After the elimination of the fourth placed team, the final will air on May 22nd.

An episode of two final matches will determine the winner based on the highest combined total.

Along with $500,000, the winner gets a fancy Alex Trebek trophy, while the runners-up receive $250,000, $150,000, $100,000, $75,000 and $50,000.

Fear not, show traditionalists, as the Masters will not interfere with regular play and both will air on those nights.

Danger! Masters continues on Monday, May 6 (8 p.m. ET) on ABC and Hulu and will air on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays throughout the month of May.
