DANGER! fans have come up with an interesting reason that Masters’ two new additions Victoria Groce and Yogesh Raut are outperforming everyone else.
Ken Jennings will host the $500,000 six-champion special during the month of May.
Danger! Season 2 of Masters premiered last Wednesday, May 1st, on ABC.
The six elite competitors are Amy Schneider, James Holzhauer, Matt Amodio, Mattea Roach, Victoria and Yogesh.
Victoria and Yogesh are the only two non-returning players (James won the 2023 Masters) and so far, they are crushing the competition.
In Game 1, Victoria — who advanced by winning April’s Jeopardy! Invitational Tournament – “dominated” Mattea Roach and Matt Amodio with 29,867.
Host Ken Jennings called Victoria’s stunning victory a “statement” and a “great Masters debut.”
In Game 2, fellow newcomer Yogesh, who won March’s Tournament of Champions, also managed an escape over “final boss” defending champion James and Amy with 26,395.
James only lost once during last year’s Masters, so it was especially surprising to see him lose at the finish.
James lost almost the entire game and going into Double Jeopardy!, Ken noted that it was a rarity to see James “in third place”.
‘LAST’
One Facebook user theorized that the fact that Victoria and Yogesh competed more recently may have given them an added advantage.
“Wondering if Victoria and Yogesh’s dominant performances were helped by them being sharper in their recent appearances,” they wrote.
Another fan responded: “Could be. The others haven’t appeared in a while. James was out of the game. Not as well as in the past, I was thinking the same thing.”
“That’s an interesting opinion,” wrote a third, and a fourth agreed: “I said that last night.”
A fifth wrote: “Yogesh and Victoria were miles ahead of the other four players, tournament ready, sharp and the final scores proved just that.”
A sixth argued: “Maybe they should have had some fun warm-up games like last year.”
Additional fans pointed out that Amy was also in the JIT with Victoria, so, “You can’t give Amy that excuse. Regardless, it’s TOO early to make judgments.”
Another wrote: “It couldn’t have hurt! I think that’s true, as Matt and James seem to have a hard time getting the timing right.”
That said, others have pointed out that Yogesh and Victoria are professional trivia players and have unrealistic knowledge bases – as well as being quick on the buzzer.
MASTERS 2024
Masters is an annual spinoff designed to determine the best player in a given year.
The Masters began on May 1st and is scheduled to end with a grand final on May 22nd.
The Masters grand prize is $500,000, a flashy Alex Trebek trophy and the Jeopardy! Master Champion.
Fear not, show traditionalists, as the Masters will not interfere with normal play and both will air on those nights.
Each Masters episode consists of two half-hour games, and the winner of each receives three points, while the runner-up receives one.
The four players with the most points will advance to the semifinals, and the top three will face each other in the finals.

FINAL THREE?
Yogesh and Victoria had winning streaks of just three and one days, respectively, and honed their trivia skills outside of Jeopardy!.
But now that they’re at the Masters, they’ve quickly become the two to watch.
Victoria and James are (or were?) co-stars on ABC’s sister show The Chase, a big draw this year.
Another big attraction is the rivalry between Yogesh and James.
The “villains” of the special grew up in the same area of Michigan that Yogesh mentioned tonight to a stoic James.
In fact, Yogesh also once boasted about being “better” than James at high school trivia on stage.
On Reddit, fans are already predicting “Yogesh, James, Victoria in the top three”
Danger! Masters continues on Monday, May 6 (8 EDT/PDT) and airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
