“However, although I didn’t feel fraudulent, I felt I needed to to test that I belonged.

“I knew my choice would face some justifiable criticism, and the only way to respond was “on the court,” so to speak – comparing her choice to professional tennis.

“Which would be difficult, but my confidence was high after JIT.

“I was ready to go out there and test myself against the best in the world, and I intended to show everyone that “the best in the world” included Amy Schneider!”

Amy went on to name-check some other deserving candidates, “Brad Rutter, Ben Chan and Troy Meyer immediately come to mind, and a case could be made for a few others.”

Amy went on to argue that coming second in the JIT behind Victoria justified her position.

“But that being said: the JIT was without a doubt (just without a doubt!) the hardest tournament played last year, and I came second (and although I’m not a neutral observer, I think it was a well-deserved second).

“So I feel like I was perfectly qualified to be considered.

“At this point, have marketability concerns given me an edge over other valuable options? Maybe! I wouldn’t be surprised if that happened.

“But we all knew the paths to automatic qualification.”

Amy wrote on X on Monday: “I wanted to start by sharing my thoughts on being the “producer’s choice.”

“Look, I’m not naive. I’m aware that the Jeopardy producers see me as marketable and that they think (rightly or wrongly) that it’s good business to have me on their show.

“And I’m not ashamed of that in itself; I worked hard to show that a trans person it could be marketable and I’m proud to have had some success in that.

“But that said, I certainly don’t want my commercialization to undermine the meritocratic spirit of Jeopardy.

“If I had been chosen by the producer without being clearly qualified to do so, it would have seemed wrong and disrespectful to the game I love.

“Fortunately, however, that situation did not arise. I do not say that I am the just person who was clearly qualified to be the Producer’s Choice.”

Unlike Masters Season 1 in 2023, this year’s lineup is based on the winners of previous events – except for the last spot.

James Holzhauer, Matt Amodio and Mattea Roach secured places by placing in the top three in Season 1 of the Masters.

Victoria Groce qualified by winning the recent JIT (over Amy) and Yogesh Raut won the 2024 Tournament of Champions.

But Amy was put back as Producer’s Choice, which caused mixed reactions from fans, as she didn’t “earn her way back.”

Amy placed fifth on Season 1 of Masters and also decisively lost Jeopardy! Invitational Tournament for Groce, only for both to advance to the Masters anyway.

The decision to sign Amy instead of a third new player for the 2024 Masters did not please all fans.
