Danger! Masters Season 2 aired its final round of quarterfinal matches on ABC tonight.

The six elite-level competitors are defending champion James Holzhauer, Amy Schneider, Matt Amodio, Mattea Roach and newcomers Victoria Groce and Yogesh Raut.

This night was decisive, as it was the last night before the semi-finals, with the last two placed eliminated.

Victoria, with a record of 50,000 against James, was comfortably in first place (13 points), Yogesh in second (10 points) and James in third (6 points).

Although the ending appears to be sealed, it was time to see who of the bottom three could survive the night to reach the semi-finals.

GAME 1 – MATT IS SO BAD!

In game 1, Yogesh faced James and Matt – who couldn’t avoid elimination even though they won tonight.

Fans were eager to see if James could beat Yogesh after losing to him earlier.

At your peril! round, Yogesh had 4,200, James had a lead with 4,600, and a stoic Matt trailed with 1,600 and a failed Daily Double.

During the interviews, Ken had one last reaction when Matt told a humbling story about his star power – or lack thereof

He shared that “it’s not the most famous person from the second Bush administration at my school who was named valedictorian — and named Matt.”

Ken asked about the strange coincidence: “Who is the other Matt?”

Matt explained that YouTuber Matt Patrick (MatPat) “eclipsed me on this. He’s a wonderful guy; I had the pleasure of meeting him.”

Ken responded, “Well, Matt, you’re the most famous Matt on our stage right now – because Mattea is not in this game.”

The audience gasped and Ken flashed a satisfied smile.

On Double Jeopardy!, Matt and James found the remaining Daily Doubles, and it was neck and neck with Yogesh at 10,200, James at 16,400, and Matt at 12,400.

The final clue was looking for “Spaceforce”, and Yogesh missed, falling to 0, while James and Matt made it, with James gaining 3 more points.

Despite 1 match point here, Matt didn’t have enough to advance and received $50,000 for placing sixth.

The crowd applauded and Ken said, “We loved having you.”

“Proud of Matt for fighting well in this game,” wrote one Redditor.

“We love you anyway, Matt!” wrote another.

“Why does Yogesh click the reply button so many times? He makes it seem like it never works,” one Redditor wrote about the player’s wild buzzer-beating style.

“Damn I’m going to miss Matt #jeopardymasters. We won’t see him for several weeks #jeopardy,” joked another (as he will likely be at next year’s JIT).

GAME 2 – END OF THE COCKROACH

In Game 2, Amy faced off against Mattea and Victoria (in a winning printed top).

Although Victoria’s victory seemed simple, the match point for second place was crucial.

In danger! round, Victoria found the first Daily Double and went on another tear with 7,000, Amy 3,800, Mattea 3,600.

In interviews, Mattea joked about a problematic New Order show, Amy shared that she has no idea what her podcast should be about, and Victoria shared that she participated in a knitting marathon that damaged her arm.

Going into Double Jeopardy, Ken even noted, “The race for second place is very important in this game.”

Mattea went all in on the second Daily Double but fell to 0, joking: “I needed Victoria to send me an answer.”

From there, they were unable to recover, and Victoria (with a correct Daily Double of 5 points) had another escape with 21,000.

Amy finished the round with 7,800 and Mattea 2,800.

No one received Final Jeopardy as “Pit and Pendulum”, as no one bet anything – Ken exclaimed, “Why am I here!”

Amy got the last place in the semi-final and Mattea was eliminated, placing fifth.

Mattea received $75,000 as the crowd screamed and Ken admitted he was “sorry” to see them go.

“You would swear Victoria was second in all-time wins watching her play in this tournament. Just mopping the floor with everyone. Awesome stuff,” wrote an additional Reddit user.

“Poor Mattea (and Amy). It was clear they were getting frustrated at the DJ when Victoria kept banging on their doorbell,” wrote another.

“So… I think we know who’s advancing before FJ,” joked a third.

“I thought Victoria might let Amy and Mattea fight, no man,” wrote a fourth.

“5 wins for Victoria and a 2nd place due to a bad bet on FJ. Unreal!” commented a fifth.

Now, Victoria has 16 match points, Yogesh has 10, James 9 and Amy 6.

STAY INFORMED ON MASTERS 2024

Season 2 of Jeopardy! The Masters started earlier this month and is now just a week away from finishing.

The annual spinoff aims to determine the best player in a given year.

The Masters grand prize is $500,000, a flashy Alex Trebek trophy to honor the late iconic host and the title of Masters Champion.

Fear not, show traditionalists, as the Masters will not interfere with normal play and both will air on those nights.

Each Masters episode consists of two half-hour games, and the winner of each receives three points, while the runner-up receives one.

Now the four players with the most points advanced to the semi-finals.

This means they will face each other in two semi-final episodes with four more matches.

One player will be left out of each game and the fourth player will be eliminated.

The two semi-final episodes will take place on Friday, May 17th and Monday, May 20th.

The fourth-placed team will then be eliminated before the final, which airs on Wednesday, May 22.

The final will be for one night only, and the winner of the two matches combined takes the title.

NEW JEOPARDY QUEEN!

James was the only one to be beaten, and that’s no secret as he is considered the best besides host Ken- and won the 2023 Masters.

But Yogesh and Victoria – who had winning streaks of just three and one day respectively – clearly came to play.

With just a week left until the end of the special, the newcomers have emerged as its shining stars.

James – no longer being introduced as “Final Boss” – only lost once during the Masters last year, so seeing him lose three times wasn’t on anyone’s bingo card.

Social media users were impressed with Victoria’s financial moves and think she will win the entire special as easily as she won the first season.

“I’m a fan of James but he’s fighting Victoria,” noted one social media user.

“I think he met his match,” wrote another.

“I know we’ve seen her do this multiple times, but Victoria plays this game on a whole different level,” wrote a third. “Those Masters signs are an easy job for her. Blocking James is no easy task.”

“Is there ANYTHING she doesn’t know?” she wrote a fourth.

Victoria and James are (or were?) co-stars on ABC’s sister show The Chase, a big draw this year.

Another big attraction is the rivalry between Yogesh and James.

The special’s “villains” grew up in the same area of Michigan and did trivia together and Yogesh also once bragged about being “better” than James at high school trivia during his initial season.

MEET THE MASTERS

James is a 32-time winner and makes his best living in professional sports in Las Vegas – known for his “all in” Daily Doubles and big wins – he won Season 1 of the Masters in a breeze.

Mattea, a 23-time winner, returned as runner-up and nearly defeated James in last year’s final.

Matt, a 38-time winner, came third last year and was the only player to score a win against James in the entire feature, but he was also “very inconsistent”.

Amy, a 40-time champion, came second last last year and also lost the recent JIT to Victoria – she was chosen as Producer’s Choice due to her popularity.

Amy being named Producer’s Choice was not without its drama as she came in last place on Season 1 of the Masters.

She also decisively lost the recent Jeopardy! Invitational Tournament for Groce, only for both to advance to the Masters anyway.

Amy even acknowledged the onstage reaction at the premiere: “I think I belong here and I’m grateful for the opportunity and excited to be here,” Schneider told Jennings.

“But it also feels like it gives me something more to prove, that I couldn’t come back in the same way as the other competitors.”

Yogesh is a controversial three-day champion who nailed it by winning the intense 2024 Tournament of Champions.

Victoria, a one-day champion in 2005, qualified by winning the recent Jeopardy’s Invitational Tournament and hasn’t slowed down since.

Danger! The Masters continues on Friday, May 17th with games 13 and 14 on ABC at 8pm ET. and on Hulu.
