As fans prepare for Pat Sajak’s final episode, some have taken to Reddit to discuss the next host.

Several fans of the show seemed unhappy with the decision to tap Ryan, 49, to host.

“Seacrest is an interesting replacement choice. It will be strange to see him on the show for a while,” wrote one Wheel of Fortune fan.

“Seacrest is everyone’s replacement,” a second viewer responded.

“If you say ‘harmless generic white guy’ three times in the mirror, Ryan Seacrest appears,” wrote a third.

Other fans speculated that Ryan would leave the show quickly.

“Yes, I’m not a fan. Born in the 90s, he was [Alex] Trebek, Pat and Bob Barker throughout my childhood. And I feel like Ken [Jennings] and Drew [Carey] they’re at it for the long haul. I wouldn’t be surprised if Seacrest came out in 5 years. I want some commitment, damn it!” commented one critic.

“Of course Seacrest will be out, that’s his slogan. Seacrest! Out!!!” someone scoffed.

BEST PUPPY

The backlash against Ryan replacing Pat has been rampant.

However, the TV and radio personality doesn’t seem overly affected by this.

Wheel of Fortune’s Pat Sajak Lands Acting Role After Leaving Game Show First Job During Retirement

Amid calls for the network to replace him, Ryan shared a post praising his hosting skills.

On Wednesday, the podcast host shared a post from the official American Idol account to his Instagram Stories.

The post dubbed him the “best host.”

The Story showed three photos of Ryan alongside Idol contestants from different seasons.

Wheel of Fortune Host Timeline

Although Pat and Vanna have been a fixture on the game show for decades, there have been other hosts

Chuck Woolery was the host from 1975 to 1981

He co-hosted alongside Susan Stafford (1975 to 1982)

Vanna White took over as host in 1982 and has been since then.

After a contract and salary dispute, the show got rid of Chuck and brought back Pat in 1982.

Pat hosted Susan for a season

He then left the game show in 1989 to host a late-night talk show for CBS.

For five months, NFL player Rolf Benirschke took his place

In July 1989, Bob Goen hosted the show on CBS

He hosted for a year and a half until the show was canceled in 1991

The show was then moved to ABC, with Pat and Vanna hosting for the foreseeable future.

In 2023, Pat announced his retirement and Ryan Seacrest was quickly named his replacement

“Thank you to the best host @RyanSeacrest for another year of love and laughter!!” the post stated.

Ryan added: “An incredible season.”

Days earlier, Wheel of Fortune fans criticized him, calling him “a terrible fit” for the show.

Ryan was the topic of conversation in a recent Instagram video shared by Pat.

In the clip, he was sitting with his daughter Maggie Sajak.

The two talked about Pat’s legacy on the show and how he got the job.

In the comments, fans raved about Pat and suggested someone better to take his place.

Many said they wanted to see Maggie, 29, take her father’s place.

“Maggie should be the host!! I don’t know who thought Seacrest was a good option,” one person wrote.

“You are so loved, I think Maggie and Vanna should run the show. That would be amazing,” wrote a second.

“I definitely don’t feel like they picked the right host if they wanted to keep the show on the air. Very disappointing,” expressed a third.

MOVING

In addition to complaints about Pat’s replacement, Wheel of Fortune fans noticed a lack of fanfare over his departure from the show.

Some seem to think this is intentional, noting that Pat seems ready to move on.

Other than the interview with his daughter, Maggie, Pat has said very little about the end of his tenure on Wheel of Fortune.

Fans speculate that this is all part of his plan.

“I’m finding it interesting that there isn’t more commotion about this being Pat Sajak’s last week on Wheel of Fortune. There seems to be a general feeling of ‘ok, move on,’” one fan tweeted.

“As long as he was hosting, you’d think there would be more of a PR push.”

Some fans believe this is what Pat wanted.

“I assumed this was on his part,” guessed one supporter.

“He was never the type to give many interviews (obviously he did some, but begrudgingly, I always felt). And since he’s leaving / doesn’t care anymore, he’s willing to do an interview with Maggie, but that’s probably it.”
