A DANGER! contestant received instant attention with the story of her third date with her now-fiancé, even though fans got more details than expected.

Super champion Adriana Harmeyer kept the winning streak going with a 12th win, bringing her total to an incredible $278,500.

The archivist from West Lafayette, Indiana, already boasting the longest winning streak of season 40, faced Mike Flanagan and Hakme Lee.

During interviews, Ken Jennings told Hakme how “You knew your fiancé was a keeper after just three dates.”

“Yes, Ken,” she said. “So I have IBS, which means ‘I go to the bathroom when I’m nervous’.”

“And I was very open about it with him,” to which Ken responded, “Okay…”

“And on our third date, which was dinner at his house, I went to his apartment, he took my coat.

“And then he led me by the elbow and showed me where the bathroom is!”

“Ah, look at that, that’s adorable,” said Ken, “What’s the opposite of a red flag? I love it.”

‘OVERSHARE… BUT SWEET!’

Danger! Viewers, an always critical group, didn’t hold back on their takes, as one Facebook user posted: “Oh dear, TMI, really TMI.”

“I can’t believe that’s what the producers decided to ask her. Jeez. Or that she offered it as a possibility,” wrote another.

A third argued that it was sweet and definitely educational, if perhaps a little over the top: “Maybe one of the producers thought it would bring awareness?”

“I don’t know, it seems like a weird choice to talk about yourself on national television,” wrote a fourth.

“What is the problem?” argued a fifth. “IBS awareness is important and it appears she did not provide inadequate detail.”

“She definitely overshared, but I would almost rather hear about IBS over cross-fit!” she wrote a sixth.

ADRIANA ‘Just keep going!’

In terms of gameplay, it was all Adriana leading each commercial break.

After Danger! round, she had a narrow $2,800 lead, Hakme (losing $1,000 on the Daily Double) had $2,000, and Mike $400.

In Double Jeopardy!, Mike lost $2,000 in the second Daily Double, and Adriana added $3,000 in the last – not enough for an escape.

This meant it was still difficult to get into Final Jeopardy! with Adriana at $15,800, Hakme at $9,200 and Mike at $4,400.

The “BRITISH NOVELS of the 1960s” clue was: “The author of this novel said of the last chapter left out of the US editions: ‘my young thug protagonist grows up'”.

Adriana and Mike hit with “A Clockwork Orange”, and Adriana added $4,000 to win with $19,800, for a tremendous 12-day total.

“Speaking of clocks, keep going!” Ken closed.

Fans took to a Reddit gaming thread celebrating the champion’s victories.

“Very well, Adriana!”, wrote one of them. “Adriana’s style of play really reminds me of Julia Collins’ strategy in 2014.

“They both had a very broad knowledge base and a buzzer speed that put them consistently in the lead without relying too much on Daily Doubles.”

Another wrote: “I’m a huge fan of Adriana. Your conservative bets on DD make me very nervous.

And a third, “Adriana’s FJ accuracy is the strongest part of her game. She’s 10/12 so far – 83%!”

SLAY-DRIANA

Adriana has been on a roll since arriving two weeks ago and is now the first Super Champion of Season 40.

Fans are going crazy as it has been over a year since there was a 10+ day winner, the previous being Ray LaLonde last January.

“She’s very good. Obviously intelligent, discreet, consistent, not a prima donna. She well deserves the nickname ‘superchamp’,” said a Facebook user recently.

“Lovely woman… Brilliant and not at all unpleasant,” wrote another.

“Adriana is killing it and I love her retro vibe, like she stepped off the set of the Mary Tyler Moore Show,” wrote a third.

“Adriana is so cool I bet she doesn’t even care,” wrote a fourth.

The other qualifiers for the upcoming Tournament of Champions (all women) are five-day winners Alison Betts and Dr. Amy Hummel and Lisa Ann Walter from Celebrity Jeopardy!

That said, with four wins, Grant DeYoung and Amar Kakirde will likely participate as well.

YOUR SMILING STRATEGY

Adriana chose a traditional strategy that no other long-time winner has used in the show’s post-Holzhauer era.

She is a rare, top-down player who refuses to hunt for Daily Doubles.

Instead, she has only found 12 of the 33 clues hidden in her sequence and doesn’t jump around the board to find them.

This allows the other contestants to find the Daily Doubles and fall on their swords, missing them with big bets.

She relies on pure knowledge, getting 285 correct, 32 incorrect, and 10/12 on Final Jeopardy.

“Adriana is a sneaky, ice-cold player. She doesn’t hunt DD much and isn’t very aggressive with her bets, but on DJ’s end, she has an out-of-control game!” one fan wrote on Reddit.

“Just pure buzzer skill and huge knowledge base. I hope she continues her trend, I’d love to see how far she can take it!”

About internal risk! podcast, the team also talked about Adriana’s refreshing and traditional style.

“Yes, we haven’t had anyone who plays so straight yet. I know Alex [Trebek] I would have loved a player like Adriana.”

YOUR INSPIRATIONAL STORY

Adriana is a clinical assistant professor and archivist of University History at Purdue University Archives and Special Collections.

She is married to her husband Neal – they came together in 2013 over their love of learning – he was in the audience during her race and they share a son.

His Q&A stories shed light on his Jeopardy! journey, including her “disappointing” failure to be selected as a teen contestant.

She honed her skills on a 1990s CD-ROM version of Jeopardy! starting at age 7. She only stopped playing after the record broke in half.

She studied with a “gently used” collection of encyclopedias and credits her late grandmother, whose necklace she wears, with getting her on Jeopardy!

She auditioned for the show online for fun and was surprised to be contacted a few weeks later.

“I had taken the test online a few times before, but this time I went online one night and took the test for fun,” she said in a recent interview.

Danger! Host timeline

Danger! has had a tumultuous history regarding hosts following the death of the iconic Alex Trebek in 2020. Here are every host since the game show’s inception in 1964.

Art Fleming – from 1964 to 1975, he was the original host of the daytime version of Jeopardy! on NBC.

Alex Trebek – From 1984 to 2020, the late, great Alex hosted the modern iteration of Jeopardy! for 36 years until his death from pancreatic cancer.

Guest Hosts – 2020 to 2021, Jeopardy! tested a series of guest hosts for one- or two-week stints, including Anderson Cooper, LaVar Burton and Aaron Rodgers.

Mike Richards – 2021, he was named host for a week before resigning amid controversy. He was the show’s executive producer at the time.

Mayim Bialik – 2021 to 2023, when Mike was announced as the show’s new host, Mayim was chosen to host tournaments and primetime specials.

Mayim and Ken Jennings – 2022 to 2023, 74-time champion Ken (the winningest contestant of all time) joined Mayim as guest host and they shared hosting duties.

Ken Jennings – 2023 to present. Last December, Mayim announced on Instagram that she would “no longer” host Jeopardy! after a long hiatus, having defended the writers’ strike, and Ken was named sole host.

Ken now runs all editions of Jeopardy! including Celebrity Jeopardy!, the late night show and other primetime specials such as Masters.

“I didn’t expect anything to happen – I just thought of it as another fun Internet test.”

Adriana will be looking for her 13th consecutive victory – as she is having a good race – on Friday, June 14th.

Danger! airs at 7pm ET on ABC – check your local listings.
