Danger! Fans Surprised When ‘Very Good’ Competitor Loses ‘Easy’ Daily Double About Spring’s Biggest National Event

A DANGER! The contestant who gave defending champion Adriana Harmeyer a run for her money confused fans with a particularly strange glitch on the Daily Double.

The slip-up was surprising because the clue was about an event that was nearly impossible for any American citizen to avoid knowing about.

On Wednesday, Adriana, who won her 11th of 13 wins for a total of $299,050, faced Enzo Cunanan and Connor Townsend.

Enzo landed on Jeopardy! Daily Double of the round in “Nature”.

Ken Jennings read: “You’ve heard this 8-letter word a lot in connection with the April 8, 2024 solar eclipse; Mazatlán, Mexico was in the way of it.”

Enzo couldn’t think of anything and just shook his head: “no,” he said.

“The path of ‘wholeness,’” said Ken, explaining the correct answer. “The way where you can see the total solar eclipse.”

‘FACE SLAPPER’

Fans took to Reddit, where they were surprised that Enzo, who finished with $16,400 to Adriana’s $20,000 in the final, didn’t make it.

The entire country witnessed the 2024 Solar Eclipse, so fans didn’t know how he could be unaware of the term since the nation’s moment of unity.

“Enzo was very good, but he was surprised to see him miss the “total” in the daily double. That seemed really easy to me,” one person wrote.

“We hear that word a lot here in Indiana,” agreed another.

“I was surprised too, but I bet it was a slap in the face for him, just like it was for me,” wrote a third.

A fourth wrote: “Maybe he got stuck thinking in eight letter words instead of just filling in the answer.”

Others wondered if it was because the episode was taped before the eclipse, while the game show was taped weeks in advance.

“Do we know when the episode was recorded? If the eclipse hadn’t happened yet, it would be more understandable to miss it.”

Another responded that it was recorded on May 7, a month after the solar eclipse of May 8, 2024 – so no.

CHALLENGER LOSES IN A STRANGE WAY

Meanwhile, Adriana claimed an incredible 13th win on Friday in her closest match.

In danger! Round, Adriana once again caught fire with $7,200 and a $1,000 win Daily Double, Susan had $3,000 and Kaitlin $3,800.

On Double Jeopardy!, things got competitive when Kaitlin took the lead but lost the second Daily Double.

Kaitlyn regained the lead for the second time in the last Daily Double, and once again just before Final Jeopardy.

It seemed possible that the archivist from West Lafayette, Indiana, could make history by entering Final Jeopardy!, as she was in second place.

Kaitlyn had $12,800, Adriana $12,400, and Susan $10,200.

It all depended on “1960s AMERICA” and the clue: “Helping write an executive order in 1961, Hobart Taylor Jr. almost used the word ‘positive’ but chose this alliterative phrase instead.”

Susan wrote: “?” and she went all in from third place, which Ken said was “probably the smart bet,” although an argument could be made against it.

Adriana, who Ken pointed out “for the first time in her entire run, did not have the lead heading into the final,” correctly wrote “Affirmative Action.”

She added $8,100 to retake the lead with $20,500.

It all came down to Kaitlin, who wrote “?” – surprisingly, she bet just $410 and ended up with $12,390.

Adriana shook her head in surprise as she was declared the winner in a thrilling twist.

“Adriana Harmeyer survived her biggest scare yet!” Ken announced as his tremendous 13 day total was displayed.

Fans flooded social media to praise Adriana’s toughest win yet, but some pointed out Kaitlyn’s bad Final Jeopardy bet.

She bet so little that if she got it right in the final, she would still lose; in other words, she would have lost anyway.

“WHAT A FINISH!!! And what was the first place bet going into the final?” one Facebook user asked.

“Adriana would have won even if Kaitlin was correct, as she made a small bet, apparently hoping her opponents would get it wrong,” another Redditor posted.

“It will be difficult to beat Adriana as long as she keeps hitting FJ. Granted, in this case, since Kaitlin failed to cover, it wouldn’t really matter if she was also correct,” noted a third.

“I have to be honest, I assumed Adriana was done as soon as I saw the FJ track. I’m really surprised she made it through!” exulted a fourth.

Other fans pointed out that Adriana had a stunning 10/12 on Final Jeopardy, which became a huge Achilles heel.

“Adriana is a monster at FJ”, wrote another.

“85% just after 13 games is pretty phenomenal; most super champions’ average is in the 70s or lower.”

Adriana will go for her 14th win on Monday’s episode and spend the weekend as the reigning Jeopardy! super champion.
