SECRETS behind the scenes of The Price is Right have been revealed to The US Sun.
In an exclusive interview, a former contestant reveals how contestants are chosen for the game show and how a beloved piece of scenery is actually a green screen.
Maria Fitzsimons and her friend Jill Slattery got tickets to The Price is Right in 2013.
They arrived early, dressed to impress, and lined up around the building until they entered.
Maria revealed that everyone who appears for the recording is interviewed in advance.
“They interview everyone. The producers go all the way, look you in the eye and ask questions,” she said.

The interview process “took a long time” because they divided everyone into small groups.
“So it took 45 minutes to an hour, probably close to an hour, before we even got to the front and before we got to the building,” Maria shared.
“There was a lot of waiting and we didn’t know exactly what was happening. We finally got to the front to be interviewed, but there was a lot of waiting.”
Maria also shared that nothing is random on the game show.
The producers interview each person so they know who they will choose to “go down!”
“Nothing is by chance. Everyone is interviewed and chooses those interviews. They make it seem random, but it’s not. And I think that’s why the show did so well,” she said.
Even though Maria and her friend weren’t chosen, they were still seen on TV in the audience.
SECRETS BEHIND THE SCENES
Maria also revealed that a beloved part of the set is the green screen.
After everyone is interviewed, the groups accompanying people can take photos in front of the steering wheel.
However, they are not allowed on stage if they are not chosen.
Hosts The Price is Right

The Price is Right first appeared on TV in 1972. Fans fell in love with the game show so much that it has been on the air for over 50 years. Over that time, the show has had a few different hosts. Find out who they are below.
Bob Barker – 1972 to June 2007 (also became executive producer in 1988)
Drew Carey – October 2007 to present
Dennis James – replaced Bob in 1974 when he missed four episodes, also presented the nighttime version
Craig Ferguson – 2014 April Fools’ Day Special
During the interview, there is a green screen that potential contestants can stand in front of.
Everyone can take a photo in front of it and pose however they want.
“When you’re in line, you take a photo and it looks like you’re in front of the steering wheel,” Maria said.
“You can buy the photo at the end of the taping. They don’t let people on stage if you’re not chosen.”
WE WILL BE BACK
When the show stopped for a commercial break, Maria revealed that host Drew Carey, who was new to the job at the time, would stop and talk to the audience.
“He was engaging with people in a genuine way,” she said.
“I remember him interacting a lot with the audience, getting very close to the edge of the stage during commercials and asking people where they were from, wanting to know about them and how they are today.
“And just being himself and then when the camera started rolling again, he morphed into his on-air persona. There was a distinction there, for sure.”
The audience couldn’t ask Drew questions, but could answer if he asked about them.
