DANGER! had a problematic on-air incident that made fans think the iconic game show was accidentally gaslighting them.

The rare redundancy occurred during defending champion Adriana Harmeyer’s impressive 14-day winning streak.

Adriana, an archivist and history professor at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana, has done well.

As of Monday, June 17, she had won 14 episodes in a row, grossing $326,000 and maybe counting.

But fans noticed something strange after their 12th and 13th wins last Friday and Thursday.

On Thursday’s Double Jeopardy! round, players faced a category of “Foreign Words and Phrases”.

And without further ado, the same category was featured on Friday’s Double Jeopardy! round.

The revered game show doesn’t feature the same subject matter two nights in a row, so fans quickly noticed — and, big surprise, weren’t thrilled.

SAME CATEGORY ‘BACK TO BACK’

“Foreign words and phrases appearing on consecutive days is strange,” one Redditor posted after the two shows aired.

“The only explanation I can think of is that this program is the start of another 6-game recording day, so the overlap was simply not noticed.”

Another fan responded, “It also had two consecutive rhyming categories,” even though they didn’t have the same name.

“This reminds me of that case in one of the 5 billion tournaments where we had the same Jeopardy final category two days in a row,” wrote a third.

“It seems like they want more variety. They = the ones who make the rules,” wrote a fourth.

Another fan wrote on X: “Isn’t this the second time we’ve had “Foreign Words and Phrases” on #Jeopardy this week?

Other fans explained on Reddit that Standards and Practices randomly selects categories for the entire week (or a day of tape).

It is most likely that two identical categories were written for the same week, which unfortunately became evident because they were allowed to be placed consecutively.

ICONIC SEGMENT WINS CHOP

Last week, fans noticed that the game show quietly cut an old segment from new episodes, and it was a bit of a no-no.

Night danger! stopped showing who is competing the next night, and fans don’t know why.

For decades, viewers would see who would play tomorrow after the winner was declared and their winnings were shown.

Announcer Johnny Gilbert, 95, would announce who the defending champion would face the next day.

The returning champion and his two new challengers would be displayed in a “Tomorrow” graphic during the credits.

Viewers took to Reddit last week, realizing that this is no longer the case.

Instead, the show goes straight to the end credits, and Ken Jennings approaches the players to talk to them as the credits roll.

While the exact date the change was made is unclear, it appears to have been sometime this month.

Fans were angry because this has always been a part of the show and makes people – even the contestants themselves – excited to watch the next night.

“Why doesn’t Jeopardy no longer show which contestants will appear on the next show after each game?”. a Redditor started a thread.

“Anyone else notice they stopped doing that?”

Others commented, “I was only on the first three tapings of season 41 and they didn’t seem to be doing it for the next season either unless it was done in post.”

A third wrote: “I noticed this too, my wife asked, who’s playing tomorrow?”

And a fourth posted: “Yeah I thought there was something wrong with my cable, where did the box with the next players faces go, I’m going crazy.”

Danger! abruptly cuts the show’s classic segment as fans ask ‘why did they stop?’

Although the next day’s contestants are no longer shown on-air, they can still be found on Jeopardy.com, at least.

That said, the change is especially strange because it was left unexplained and happened mid-season, as Season 40 ends in July.

SLAY-DRIANA HARMEYER

Meanwhile, Adriana first arrived on the May 31 episode and was at court throughout June, becoming the first super champion of season 40.

Fans are going crazy as it has been almost two years since there has been a 10+ day winner, the previous being 13 day champion Ray LaLonde.

Adriana’s 14th win meant she defeated Ray and now has the longest streak since 21-day champion Cris Pannullo in autumn 2022.

However, Adriana doesn’t play anything like Cris, who scored 48-49 in Daily Doubles.

Instead, Adriana has a traditional strategy that sets her apart from every other Streaker in the post-Holzhauer era.

She is a rare, top-down player who refuses to hunt for Daily Doubles.

She has only found 14 of the 39 clues hidden in her sequence and doesn’t jump around the board to find them.

She relies on pure knowledge, getting an astonishing 305 correct and 33 incorrect on the overall clues and 14/11 on Final Jeopardy.

“Adriana is a sneaky, ice-cold player. She doesn’t hunt DD much and isn’t very aggressive with her bets, but on DJ’s end, she has an out-of-control game!” one fan recently wrote on Reddit.

“Just pure buzzer skill and huge knowledge base. I hope she continues her trend, I’d love to see how far she can take it!”

About internal risk! podcast, the team also talked about Adriana’s refreshing and traditional style.

“Yes, we haven’t had anyone who plays so straight yet. I know Alex [Trebek] I would have loved a player like Adriana.”

The other qualifiers for the upcoming Tournament of Champions (all women) are five-day winners Alison Betts and Dr. Amy Hummel and Lisa Ann Walter from Celebrity Jeopardy!

That said, with four wins, Grant DeYoung and Amar Kakirde will likely participate as well.

‘WRONG’ ABOUT STEREOTYPE

In a new interview on Monday, Adriana talked about her new TV fame.

She shattered the stereotype surrounding her home state of West Virginia.

Adriana spoke with The Parthenon about Appalachian stereotypes surrounding education.

“They’re wrong, like, they’re completely wrong. Personally, I don’t see any reason to let things stop me,” she said.

The unflappable Adriana will seek her 15th victory in Tuesday’s episode, leaving more and more powerful players in the dust.

Danger! airs at 7pm ET on ABC – check your local listings.
