Danger! Masters will return for its second installment starting May 1, 2024.

The six Jeopardy! contestants will play in the primetime tournament, facing off in two games per hour-long episode.

The showdown will feature Jeopardy! Masters Season 1 champion James Holzhauer, returning competitors Matt Amodio and Mattea Roach and newcomers Yogesh Raut and Victoria Groce.

The sixth and final contestant was a mysterious Producer’s Choice, which no one knew about and was at the sole discretion of the producers – until now.

Executive producer Michael Davies and producer Sarah Whitcomb-Foss announced Amy as the sixth and final contestant.

They did it on Friday’s Inside Jeopardy! Live on tour at The Edge in Hudson Yards, New York.

BOSSES ANNOUNCE AMY AS THEIR CHOICE

The US Sun attended the event, and producers broke the big news by displaying a question mark on the screen.

“Everyone is talking about this, our wildcard Producer’s Choice,” Foss told the audience.

Davies joked: “I have to prepare myself for the Redditors,” before adding: “So firstly, it’s the producer’s choice, but it’s not just me. It’s all the producers”, mentioning ABC and Sony.

“We have to recognize that there were several worthy people. But one person was above all others.”

“I have to believe that they can get up on that stage at the Masters and beat everyone,” he added.

“Secondly, we are a TV show. We depend on the ratings,” he admitted, saying Amy’s “following” was a factor.

His last reason was Amy missing Masters 2023 and JIT: “I love a redemption story. I love someone who’s like, ‘Wow, I just didn’t do that.’”

And with that, they revealed Amy on the stage screen as their choice, receiving moderate applause from the audience.

“What a player. We see how well it handles tougher materials, which are very important in the Masters. We see how good she is at the buzzer, so we are delighted to have Amy as the sixth choice,” concluded Davies to no applause.

‘AMY AGAIN?’

Amy was at Masters 2023, part of the lineup of 4/6 returning competitors; she also lost decisively to Victoria Groce in the recent JIT, which launched Victoria into the Masters and, in the opinion of many, meant that Amy would not compete.

The game show made the announcement official soon after with a video to Instagram showing each of the six Masters competitors and the now complete list.

“Amy again?” one fan wrote.

“As much as I admire Amy, it’s a shame for the fans who didn’t want this year’s Masters to be a repeat of last year,” wrote another.

“Honestly tired of this group appearing over and over again!” wrote a third.

“I love Amy, but this is so weird! This was supposed to be the top 3 finalists from last year and the others will only come back if they win the JIT (which Amy could have done but didn’t). Too many other good choices were left out here !” wrote another.

“For the record, as a huge Amy fan… I’m not a huge fan of this pick. It’s a predictable pick and I just don’t know if her gameplay will compare to the other five,” wrote a fifth.

“So what was the point of JIT,” wrote another.

“What is the point of the producer’s choice. Everyone else gained their way back”, wrote another.

MORE ABOUT MASTERS SEASON 2

Masters is an annual event that determines the best Jeopardy! competitor in any year.

The final grand prize is $500,000, a flashy trophy and the title of Jeopardy! Master Champion.

There are expected to be six quarter-final episodes with no one eliminated, two semi-final games and a two-point final in total with the top three.

Victoria punched her ticket to the Masters by winning Jeopardy! Invitational Tournament earlier this week in a breeze, defeating Amy and Andrew He.

The Queen of The Chase will now face James, who she co-stars with on ABC’s sister show.

Meanwhile, Yogesh qualified by winning the 2024 Tournament of Champions a few weeks earlier.

Fans suggested many other options for who they thought would be the producer’s choice to bring more fresh blood to the second iteration.

Fans on Reddit nominated Brad Rutter for being the third GOAT contestant.

Others predicted 21-day champion Cris Pannullo, who excelled at the 2024 Tournament of Champions (and was an alternate at last year’s Masters), or comeback queen Juveria Zaheer.

Still others thought Troy Meyer or Ben Chan would have made winning additions as they put up a fierce fight in the 2024 ToC Finals.

Although Troy placed third behind Ben, he was statistically a stronger player.

About that. fear not, show traditionalists, as the Masters will not interfere with regular episodes.

The regular show with new contestants returned for the first time this season on Wednesday and will continue until the end of season 40 in July.
