The showrunner of JEOPARDY! talked about the sudden influx of celebrities getting their own ranks on the iconic quiz show.
The abrupt increase in actors delivering video cues and touting their latest projects has raised some eyebrows from fans.
Danger! viewers have noticed a lot more actors invading their screens in recent weeks.
About internal risk! podcast, executive producer Michael Davies took the time to assure fans that nothing shady was going on.
“Regular viewers will notice that we have had many movie stars and actors promoting TV shows promoting films,” he said.
“We had Chris Pratt, Emily Blunt and Matt Damon — and it’s partly because movie studios and TV networks are realizing that Jeopardy! reaches so many people.
“Which is a very good environment to promote your films or TV shows.
He assured: “We don’t always say yes; we say yes when editorially it fits our program and will move forward on the game board.”
“No money changes hands, we have to emphasize that.
“We never take money to put things on the board.”
“This gives us the ability to change things”, he explained.
Podcast co-host and longtime producer Sarah Foss brought up the iconic Tony Hale by introducing clues from Inside Out 2 last week.
She explained that even though he promoted the Pixar film in his cameo, it still fit into the show.
“This is a great example,” she said. “We are not introducing a category in Inside Out 2.
“We’re introducing a category about emotions. The tracks look very dangerous!”
‘JUST A MOVIE CALL…’
Not all fans believed in the increase in promotional content for the beloved game show and expressed their doubts on social media.
“Jeopardy Masters hate crimed Amy Schneider and Mattea Roach by making them play a Chris Pratt video category about his career that was just a tie-in to a Garfield movie,” one fan wrote in May.
“Jeopardy masters, why did you let Chris Pratt have an entire category all about him,” asked another at the time.
“Yesterday’s #Disney sale? #InsideOut. Just saying,” wrote a third, referring to Disney and Sony (parent company of Jeopardy!) often working together.
Others stated that celebrity categories often take longer than regular clues and can lead to clues being left on the board.
DAILY DOUBLE DIVE
Last week, a rare redundancy on the show left fans thinking about Jeopardy! I was accidentally gaslighting them.
The strangeness occurred during champion Adriana Harmeyer’s impressive 15-day winning streak.
Adriana, an archivist and history teacher from West Lafayette, Indiana, has done well, raising $349,600 and maybe counting.
But fans noticed something strange after their 12th and 13th wins last Friday and Thursday.
On Thursday’s Double Jeopardy! round, players faced a category of “Foreign Words and Phrases”.
And without further ado, the same category was featured on Friday’s Double Jeopardy! round.
The revered game show doesn’t feature the same subject matter two nights in a row, so fans quickly noticed — and, big surprise, weren’t thrilled.
“Foreign words and phrases appearing on consecutive days is strange,” one Redditor posted after the two shows aired.
“The only explanation I can think of is that this program is the start of another 6-game recording day, so the overlap was simply not noticed.”
Another fan responded, “It also had two consecutive rhyming categories,” even though they didn’t have the same name.
“It seems like they want more variety. They = the ones who make the rules,” wrote another.
Danger! airs at 7pm ET on ABC – check your local listings.
