DANGER! caused a maelstrom on the Internet with a street slang clue that some fans considered a reach to the revered quiz show.

Drew Basile – who is the current Jeopardy! champion and Survivor alumnus – won the second of three games.

Drew faced Jonquil Garrick-Reynolds and Bob Longstreth last Thursday, June 20th.

The $800 clue was selected from the “On the Streets” category and read by the one and only Ken Jennings.

It was: “On the streets, he’s your rival; Maxo Kream rhymes the word with ‘gota'”.

Without hesitation, Drew walked in and immediately nailed it; “What is it: ‘Opp.'”

“Opp” is an abbreviation of the word “opponent” or “enemy”.

The term is trendy in rap music (see Kendrick Lamar’s legendary Drake diss track Not Like Us) and in video game chat rooms.

That said, viewers weren’t expecting to hear “Opp” on Jeopardy! and the clip circulated on social media.

‘OPP’ IN DANGER! AND CRAZY’

“When Jeopardy started teaching people about neighborhood slang,” wrote a surprised user X.

“Opp being a word about danger is crazy,” wrote another.

“That boy knew the answer without hesitation,” joked a third.

“This is crazy. Watched this last night and was shocked,” she posted a fourth.

“The culture continues to be vulture”, lamented a fifth, “since when famous game shows started using the word opp”.

“I miss Alex Trebek… Jeopardy used to be a serious show…” wrote a sixth.

“Ugh, it still is,” replied another, adding, “to an extent.”

Drew won that match and Friday’s game as well, for a nice total of $53,202 and maybe counting.

Your winning streak has begun last week in a shocking way; he defeated 15-day champion Adriana Harmeyer in a matchreally upset.

The Survivor 45 alum is going strong as one of the rare “giant killers” – or players who beat a longtime champion to not immediately lose the next game.

He is also the first Survivor contestant to compete on the game show.

‘SKIBIDI?’

In May, Jeopardy! apparently tried to appeal to younger audiences with a category titled “Internet Slang” during Jeopardy! Masters.

One clue read: “Slang like ‘fanum tax’ and ‘skibidi’ confuses many; it is associated with this generation, a name that inappropriately follows Gen Z.”

Matt Amodio nailed it with “Gen Alpha” and can be seen with a shrunken facial expression.

“Just saw the skibidi bathroom mentioned during Jeopardy, day ruined,” wrote one user X at the time.

“Where were you when Ken Jennings said Fanum tax and Skibidi live on TV on Jeopardy masters,” wrote another.

“Lord save us, Jeopardy now has a Skibidi Toilet clue,” wrote a third.

Players were also tasked with a category called “It’s Giving” this season — and not all fans thought it was giving.

Former champion Ken, 50, was named sole host in December 2023 after actress Mayim Bialik, 48, was dropped from the series.

Prior to that, Ken was one of several guest hosts who auditioned when Alex Trebek died of pancreatic cancer in November 2020.

Drew will look for four wins against two new challengers on Monday, June 24 at 7pm ET on ABC.
