DANGER! fans felt the absence of Isaac Hirsch on Wednesday night in what some considered a “pathetic” and “brutal” follow-up game.

Jay Fisher – who dethroned the nine-day champion – handily won a second match after a staggering number of misses and errors.

Jay – who defeated Isaac because of a math error in a totally shocking twist last episode – returned to see if he could turn his twist into a sequel.

He faced Zach Eckstein of New York and Nella Ballauer of Amarillo, Texas.

In danger! round, things went well, as short-lived State Senator Jay accumulated $6,400, Zach had $3,800, and Nella (missing a Daily Double) had $0.

On Double Jeopardy!, the process was hampered when the contestants stared blankly and didn’t give most of the clues.

DOUBLE PENALTY! DOOZY

Players got 1 out of 5 in the OPERA HEROINES category and at one point Ken Jennings joked, “Shall we continue?”

Zach incorrectly guessed that the director of the French film noir “Breathless” was Hitchcock.

“I believe in you!” Ken joked at another point.

Players began to laugh nervously and there were a baffling 21 triple stumbles or clues where no one cared.

Jay got both Daily Doubles and went on the run with no real competition.

He had $19,700, $3,600 for Nella and $1,800 for Zach when Final Jeopardy was featured in “Literary Characters”.

It read: “In a 1980 National Book Award winner, we learn that this title character was named after his late father’s rank – Technical Sergeant.”

No one won “Garp” and Jay spent $5,300 to win $14,400 for a total of $16,199 in two days.

‘BRUTAL’

Fans flooded social media where they weren’t shy about expressing how difficult the game was – some blaming the players, others the show.

“Pathetic performance on Jeopardy tonight. Wtf,” wrote one Facebook user.

“I’m going to miss seeing Isaac!” wrote another.

“Really brutal double board today; less than half of the clues in the round got an attempt,” noted one Redditor.

“Tough boards today,” wrote a fourth. “Jay put in a strong performance, but 21 triple stumpers, a combined Coryat of 22.400 and 0/3 in FJ is difficult, to say the least.”

“Really had to save some money in the prize budget after Isaac, huh?” she joked a fifth.

“It might just be me, but games that follow a ToC champion’s departure seem to tend to have lower stats and more Triple Stumpers,” wrote a sixth.

“What doesn’t help is that the DJ board in particular seemed brutal,” wrote a seventh.

Jay will be aiming for three wins tomorrow against two new opponents, and other fans commented that they were impressed with how well he did.

THIS IS HIRSCH

Isaac messed up a lot on Final Jeopardy! round of the July 16 game, ending their fan-favorite nine-day winning streak.

Isaac accumulated $215,390 and a lot of fans, but a big bet in the last round cost him dearly.

Going into Final Jeopardy!, Isaac had $15,300 to Jay’s $16,200 and Erika Stromerson’s $600.

The clue in the “People of the 1960s” category read: “He said the California prison psychological tests he took were those he had planned, so he made himself appear docile and unlikely to escape; so he did.

Jeopardy!’s Isaac Hirsch loses 9-day streak due to shocking mistake that left him ‘horrified’ and reliving the bet in his sleep

The correct answer was “Who was Timothy Leary?”

Neither player found the correct answer, but Isaac’s bet of $14,000 put him in second place with a final score of $1,300 to Jay’s $1,799.

Isaac did a full 360 on his podium and held up his pink betting slip to the camera.

He seemed surprised to realize that the amount was too large to win if he was incorrect during the credits.

Fans were surprised on social media that the champion lost due to a math error.

“Wow, crazy to end there #jeopardy,” wrote one user.

“Aw man, I’m disappointed that Isaac lost, but at least he’ll be back on TOC,” posted another.

ISAAC SPEAKS

Isaac offered some insight into his mistake that cost him the game on Reddit.

“Okay, so why did I bet $14,000? The short answer is that I did the math wrong,” Isaac explained in the comments on the game’s Reddit thread.

“(Although I think it’s kind of obvious based on how I spent the first minute after the game staring at my scratch paper in horror.) I was trying to subtract 14,401 from 16,200, and somehow I found 1,300 instead of 1,800 as the number I needed to get if I got it wrong, hence the bet of 14,000.”

To make matters worse, Isaac added: “I spent the weeks after recording watching bad math in my sleep. I remembered basically nothing about most of the games from last week, but EVERYTHING about this game. All credit to Jay, who totally murdered me at the bell, especially in the first round.”

Isaac noted: “This was bound to happen – I barely survived yesterday and was very, very tired.

“It’s been a fun experience watching these streams, and I appreciate how kind people have been to me. I’ll have a lot to prove in the ToC; including that I can do basic arithmetic.”

‘I WAS IN SHOCK,’ SAYS JAY

Jay also responded in the thread and admitted that he was shocked that he won.

“I haven’t had the chance to watch the episode yet, but I was shocked when I won. it was different. I’ll be rooting for him at ToC. Congratulations on a great race and good luck in the ToC,” he wrote.
