JEOPARDY! Isaac Hirsch reveals why he didn’t bet anything after his maths mistake.
Isaac’s math error caused his nine-day winning streak to end.

On Tuesday night, Jeopardy! fans saw Isaac lose to Jay Fisher and Erika Stromerson.
During the competition, Isaac was close to winning his tenth game before everything fell apart before his eyes.
When the “People of the 1960s” clue was revealed, Isaac bet $14,000, losing him the winning spot, and Jay came in first place.
After his defeat, Isaac made a comical comment about his defeat via X.

“Don’t cry because it’s over… smile because you’re better at math than me,” Isaac wrote in X.
Former Jeopardy! champion Ben Goldstein asked, “Quick question: Have you ever thought about betting $0 or $901? Or is that kind of thing too chickenshit for your taste?”
Isaac replied: “I think I would be more likely to do it if it was a category I thought would be difficult (World Geography), but I thought people from the 1960s seemed to be both in Jay and in my wheelhouse and I wanted to go all in. that I could where I would win by $1 if we were both wrong… and I just did one wrong subtraction.”
This isn’t the first time Isaac has addressed his defeat.
The nine-day champion took to Reddit to share what really led to your loss.
“Okay, so why did I bet $14,000?” he started. “The short answer is that I did the math wrong.
He revealed that he lost sleep thinking about his mistake after recording the program.
“I spent the weeks after recording watching bad math in my sleep. I remembered basically nothing about most of the games from last week, but EVERYTHING about this game.
“This was bound to happen – I barely survived yesterday and I was very, very tired.”
He concluded his post by saying that the experience was still pleasant and that he is grateful for the support he received.

While Isaac may have lost his streak on the hit game show, Jeopardy! fans will see him take the podium once again during the 2025 Tournament of Champions.

In fact, Isaac is no stranger to game shows.
He began his trivia journey in 2017 when he appeared on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? taking home $5,000.
In 2023, Isaac was also on ABC’s The Chase where he won a whopping $140,000.
His love for game shows started with his father, as he was also a contestant on Jeopardy! three decades ago.
“My dad was on Jeopardy! in the 80s and it was one of the first years Alex hosted, and he lost,” Isaac shared.
Although he also lost to Jeopardy!, Isaac has a chance to redeem himself during the Contest of Champions.
