DANGER! contestant Jay Fischer surprised viewers by winning a deep Final Jeopardy clue that many called “unforgiving” on Thursday night.

The champion from Lisle, Illinois, faced Meredith Miller of Arlington, Virginia, and Micah-Rahn-Tiemer of Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Jay still had some skeptics on the July 18 episode, coming in with a two-day total of $16,199.

As viewers know all too well, he became champion by dethroning fan favorite Isaac Hirsch, and his subsequent victory featured a brutal 21 triple stumbles.

Fans also noticed the difficulty of Final Jeopardy! this week, and after two games without anyone hitting, Jay rose to the occasion.

In danger! round, Micah lost the Daily Double dropping to $0 and Jay maintained the lead with $3,400, Micah $2,400 and
Meredith with $1,200.

In Double Jeopardy!, Micah found the two remaining Daily Doubles and took control of the game.

“This game has changed,” Ken Jennings told the newcomer, “You’re running away.”

Even though he missed third (and everyone give me a Stephen King clue), Micah still looked like he was poised to snatch the winner’s podium.

Going into Final Jeopardy!, he had $8,000, Jay had $6,600, and Meredith had $6,000, so things were neck and neck.

Ken delivered the crucial final clue in “SHOW BIZ MARRIAGES.”

It was “Married since 1977, the year of this band’s first album, 2 members referenced another album with their 2023 “Remain In Love” tour.”

Surprisingly, Jay analyzed everything, giving the only correct answer – “The Talking Heads”.

He added $5,401 to win $12,001 and a total of $28,200 in three days, looking very happy.

‘I WOULD NEVER HAVE THAT!’

While less than $30,000 may not seem like much for three days of work, fans flooded social media applauding Jay for his moment of musical knowledge.

“Final Jeopardies was relentless this week, so kudos to Jay for nailing it,” wrote one Redditor.

“Yay Jay! You need two more wins for a guaranteed spot in the ToC. I’m rooting for you,” wrote another.

“I like Jay getting a decent payday even after the Game 1 win. Let’s see how it goes on Friday!” wrote a third.

“These last three [Final Jeopardy! clues] were firmly in the ‘never heard of that and/or would never have gotten that in a million years’ category,” noted a fourth.

“I was arguing between Wings and ABBA. I know absolutely nothing about any member of Talking Heads who isn’t called David Byrne.”

A quarter criticized the writers and said a revamp of the category could have helped specify the track.

“IMO, it would have been fairer to the contestants if the category was CLASSIC ROCK WEDDINGS, because without a solid knowledge of that genre, you wouldn’t have a chance in this one,” they wrote.

The track was especially tricky because it wasn’t about Talking Heads frontman David Byrne.

Drummer Chris Frantz and bassist Tina Weymouth have been married since 1977, taking part in a 2023 UK tour called “Remain In Love”, referring to Talking Heads’ 1980 album Remain in Light.

Thanks to his musical talent, Jay will return with four wins and four in Friday’s episode, likely qualifying him for the next Tournament of Champions.

‘DIAPERS SHARED WITH LISA MARIE’

Meanwhile, Jay achieved giant killer status after defeating nine-day champion Isaac on Tuesday in one of the biggest upsets of the season.

Isaac lost on a math error due to betting too much, realizing it after the fact – holding up his pink betting slip as the credits rolled.

However, the reigning Ivy League-clad champion may be starting to gain traction.

He’s hit 55 times and five incorrects on the lanes overall, meaning that when he gets in, he rarely gets it wrong.

He also came up with several hilarious Q&A stories, just like Isaac did.

Tonight, he shared that he shares a surprising bond with James Holzhauer.

On Wednesday night’s episode, Jay revealed a shocking connection to Elvis Presley.

“Did your father and grandfather have the same workplace?” Ken asked Jay during interviews.

“Well, they both did projects at the same place, which was Graceland in Memphis,” Jay shared.

“One of my dad’s jobs in high school, he worked for a landscaping company, so he planted trees in Graceland,” he explained.

“And my maternal grandfather had a business making screen doors and windows. So he did some repairs on the windows of Elvis’ Graceland. So, yes, we have a family connection to Graceland.”

Ken became interested and probed further, asking, “And you were a baby there, which means what?”

“So I was born a few months before Lisa Marie Presley,” Jay said.

“And before disposable diapers, people used diaper services. Then one day the doorbell rang, my mother answered the door, and the driver was extremely excited. And he said, ‘Mrs. Fisher, you won’t believe it. I have Lisa Marie Presley’s dirty diapers in my truck.

“So maybe I shared diapers with Lisa Marie Presley.”

Ken was surprised: “What a claim to fame! This is remarkable!

‘SENATOR WITH SHORTEST TIME’

During Tuesday’s episode, Jay revealed that he was a senator in his home state of Illinois for a whopping 22 hours.

“Probably the shortest-serving senator in Illinois history… 10 hours,” he shared.

“In 2018, my senator lost his seat for re-election and decided to resign.

“The new governor called a lame session and I got there at 2 o’clock in the afternoon, took some votes that afternoon and the next morning and then the new general assembly was sworn in, so my term was over.”

He added, “I never found out where the bathroom was and probably the only Illinois politician to lose money on the deal because I didn’t get paid or per diem.”

Ken, 50, laughed at surprising fans by turning the story into a political joke.

“You’re an Illinois politician and you’re not in prison, Jay. You did it!” he exclaimed.

Viewers at home were a little put off by the wise joke, which seemed necessarily political.

“What did Illinois do to Ken Jennings,” asked one fan on X.

“Wow cheap shot aimed at Illinois,” posted another.

Meanwhile, if Jay wins game four, he could be the last season 40 contestant to make it to the ToC when the season ends next Friday, July 26th.

Danger! airs at 7pm ET – check your local listings.
