Season 4 of Jeopardy! concluded last week, and fans claimed it was the “worst season” yet.

A fan started a discussion in the Reddit subthread of Jeopardy!

“This might be the worst season of Jeopardy I’ve ever seen,” they began.

“The constant, never-ending tournaments, played for very small stakes – basically for the chance to be one of the first competitors eliminated in the next tournament.”

The fan started to blame the program’s production team.

“Actually, it all depends on the production team. They did a terrible job this season,” they continued.

“Many of his decisions give the impression of not having been carefully thought out.

The fan acknowledged that the “bad” season could have been due to the writer’s strike before suggesting, “They should have just shown reruns.”

Fans responded in accordance with the Reddit user.

“Yes, constant tournaments with recycled players were horrible,” said one viewer.

“And then, when they returned to normal shows, they continued to have matches with questionable and nit-picking decisions from the judges, including one notorious show that had a multi-thousand dollar balance.”

“I’m not going to lie, I watched less Jeopardy this season than I have in years, and it was because of the tournaments,” wrote another.

“I also got tired of the endless tournaments,” said a third.

OPPOSING THOUGHTS

While many viewers agreed with the Reddit user, others felt differently.

“I don’t think it’s that bad,” expressed one Jeopardy! fan.

Danger! Host timeline

Danger! has had a tumultuous history regarding hosts following the death of the iconic Alex Trebek in 2020. Here are every host since the game show’s inception in 1964.

Art Fleming – from 1964 to 1975, he was the original host of the daytime version of Jeopardy! on NBC.

Alex Trebek – From 1984 to 2020, the late, great Alex hosted the modern iteration of Jeopardy! for 36 years until his death from pancreatic cancer.

Guest Hosts – 2020 to 2021, Jeopardy! tested a series of guest hosts for one- or two-week stints, including Anderson Cooper, LaVar Burton and Aaron Rodgers.

Mike Richards – 2021, he was named host for a week before resigning amid controversy. He was the show’s executive producer at the time.

Mayim Bialik – 2021 to 2023, when Mike was announced as the show’s new host, Mayim was chosen to host tournaments and primetime specials.

Mayim and Ken Jennings – 2022 to 2023, 74-time champion Ken (the winningest contestant of all time) joined Mayim as guest host and they shared hosting duties.

Ken Jennings – 2023 to present. Last December, Mayim announced on Instagram that she would “no longer” host Jeopardy! after a long hiatus, having defended the writers’ strike, and Ken was named sole host.

Ken now runs all editions of Jeopardy! including Celebrity Jeopardy!, the late night show and other primetime specials such as Masters.

“Besides, none of us do a perfect job, and there are few jobs as visible yet as invisible as producer/director of a cultural phenomenon like Jeopardy.”

“They got a full season despite the writers’ strike. If you don’t want to watch it, don’t watch it,” commented another.

“No way. Jeopardy is Jeopardy no matter who’s playing. I still liked it,” a third disagreed.

The Writer’s Guild of America strike took place between May and September 2023, halting TV and film productions.

NEW DANGER! CHAMPION

Despite divided thoughts and the writers’ strike, Jeopardy! pressed on and crowned a new champion on Friday night.

Newcomer Rachel Bradley won the last show.

Rachel was in second place until the last minute when she led with $23,597, overtaking Steve Babish and two-day champion Davey Morrison.

The hit show’s 41st season will premiere on September 9, 2024, and run until July 2025.
