Jimmy Kimmel hosts the revival of the weekly game show with two celebrity duos competing for up to $1 million for charity.

One Tree Hill star and comedian Alex Edelman was first in the spotlight on Wednesday night.

The pair spent most of the game (stumbling through the previous question using two lifelines) reaching the $250,000 question.

The $250,000 question was: “Ranked second on Rolling Stone’s list of the best songs by fake bands, “Scotty Doesn’t Know” is voiced by Matt Damon in which raunchy teen comedy?”

The options were A: “Eurotrip”, B: “Hot Tub Time Machine”, C: “American Pie 2”. and D: “Van Wilder 2”.

“It’s Eurotrip,” Alex said instantly. “I think he’s right!” Sofia repeated.

They locked him in immediately and Jimmy said they were right as they got up from their seats and hugged each other.

‘DEPRESSINGLY EASY’

Fans took to social media, saying the question was an “easy” one worth $250,000 and didn’t hold back their hot opinions.

“’I get it… but sir, the questions on Celebrity Millionaire are depressingly easy,’ wrote one fan on X as the show aired.

“Scotty doesn’t know about Eurotrip for $250,000 haha that gig has tanked,” wrote another.

The pair immediately hit a snag on the next question for $500,000.

It was a few steps up in difficulty and over the US presidents – so they walked away with the guaranteed amount for their charity.

The new season premiered on July 10, and new episodes air on ABC at 8 pm ET every Wednesday.

MODERN MILLIONAIRE

Jimmy, a talk show veteran and Oscar host (well, not this year) has helmed this revival of Millionaire since 2020.

Not all fans like Millionaire’s new celebrity-focused format.

Fans said having celebrity contestants instead of regular Joes eliminates any risk and seems to go against the show’s concept.

“A big problem is the lack of regular non-celebrity contestants,” one X user recently posted in a complaints thread for the show. “Bring back real-life drama and life-changing stories.”

Others took issue with the episode’s structure, which consists of two pairs of A-listers crammed into one hour and removed the show’s former fluidity.

“Much of the show is sloppy and, frankly, bad,” someone else wrote recently. “Writing is difficult. Questions have typos. Pacing is bad. Editing is very difficult. Sound design is lacking. Feels rushed/no room to breathe. Forcing two games per hour removes any drama. It’s confusing how that turned into this.”

“It feels so compressed that they won’t even let Jimmy chat a little with the contestants coming back from break,” a third fan agreed.

That said, the current season is pulling great reviews and the first few episodes had their moments.

In the season 3 premiere, John Mulaney and Nick Kroll went viral on

In episode 2, Parent Trap’s Lisa Ann Walter surprised fans by winning $250,000 after getting a tricky geography question right without any lifelines.

‘WE ARE STILL HERE’

The third season of the Millionaire revival also marks the first time that Jimmy has hosted a studio audience.

The first two seasons of the revival of the once number one show were filmed during Covid.

Contestants brought their friend’s phone to the studio and had to stand in the back, along the set wall.

Kimmel acknowledged that things are not the same during the Season 3 premiere: “This show aired in the summer of 1999, hosted by the late, great Regis Philbin.

“It was by far the most popular show in the world, and now I’m the host, and it’s not anymore,” the audience laughed nervously.

“But we’re still here. Because of the pandemic I never presented the program with an audience, we did two seasons without anyone here, so welcome!”

PRE-RECESSION MILLIONAIRE

Who Wants to Be a Millionaire premiered on ABC in 1999 and instantly became a mega hit.

Regis Philbin hosted the show, which became so popular that it was ordered as a regular series a year later.

In 2002, nine seasoned citizens won the grand prize, and three more during its syndicated campaign as popularity waned.

But who could forget its first winner, John Carpenter, who iconically used the lifeline of a friend’s telephone only to call his father and tell him he was about to win the million?

Meredith Vieira was host from 2002 to 2014, and Terry Crews, Cedric The Entertainer and Chris Harrison also took turns.

The Millionaire’s Current Celebrity Edition premiered in 2020 on ABC and went on indefinite hiatus in 2022 – now it’s back.
