Price is Right fans recently revisited one of the series’ most memorable moments as the countdown to new episodes continues.
The long-running CBS series is currently on hiatus before The Price is Right returns next month.
On Wednesday, the show’s official Instagram account shared a clip from an earlier episode made famous after host Drew Carey was forced to kick the Flip or Flop machine.
The throwback video begins with Drew, 66, explaining the rules of the game to a contestant on the verge of victory.
“You can turn the first two numbers… or you can get the last two numbers right,” Drew told her.
“Or you can turn around and fail,” he added. “Flip-flop or flip-flop. Good luck!”
More about The Price is Right
After the contestant set her guess at $9,782, she tried to press the buzzer to reveal whether her price was right.
The reveal was anticlimactic, as Drew and the contestant realized the button was broken.
At one point, the American comedian, who has presented The Price is Right since 2007, even kicked the machine – leaving fans at home divided.
Reacting to the Instagram video, one user commented: “That’s not Drew kicking! [laughing emoji]”
Another said “nothing compares to watching” a live taping of The Price is Right, the longest-running game show on American TV.
“It seems that the gaming machine almost failed [laughing emoji],” read a third comment.
A fourth person praised Drew’s “comedic timing,” while a fifth fan said he “has become a host of the show.”
Finally, Drew managed to press the button and the studio erupted in applause when it was revealed that the contestant had accurately guessed the object’s price.
“At least it worked out in the end,” read the caption of the Instagram video.
Earlier this week, fans called on the show’s producers to remove one of its most popular games ahead of the next season.
The price is right, hosts
The Price is Right first appeared on TV in 1972. Fans fell in love with the game show so much that it has been on the air for over 50 years. Over that time, the show has had a few different hosts. Find out who they are below.
Bob Barker – 1972 to June 2007 (also became executive producer in 1988)
Drew Carey – October 2007 to present
Dennis James – replaced Bob in 1974 when he missed four episodes, also presented the nighttime version
Craig Ferguson – 2014 April Fools’ Day Special
On Monday, The Price is Right shared a clip demonstrating how the Lucky Seven game is played, as contestants try to guess a car’s seven-figure price to win it.
At the start of the game, each player is given seven one-dollar bills, one for each digit of the price.
For each incorrect number guessed, the player must return a dollar to Drew.
To win, the contestant must have $1 left after all digits are revealed.
Reacting to the clip, Instagram users called for the game to be canceled because it was too “difficult” and almost impossible to beat.
“I’ve been watching the show for over 50 years and it’s very rare for someone to win at Lucky 7, it’s a tough game but good for her which should mean there will be a show tonight,” one person wrote.
Earlier this month, The US Sun reported that viewers of The Price is Right are disappointed with the show’s lack of innovation in recent years.
A high-ranking broadcast TV source said Drew’s “shockingly traditional” approach to hosting the show, which has aired more than 9,000 episodes, makes it feel like “old TV.”
“I think Drew is living a little in the past, keeping this job for so many years, but he has loved the format since he was a kid,” the source told The US Sun.
