The danger! The pop culture spin-off was announced in May and almost immediately fans began speculating about who would host it.

Among the many former champions and celebrities considered by fans was Buzzy Cohen.

Buzzy, 39, competed on Jeopardy! and even hosted the 2021 ToC and 2024 tournament season audio games, making it a favorite.

“Guess Buzzy,” one Reddit user wrote after the show was announced.

“I was super excited about it, but with Buzzy I would be over the moon!” wrote another.

‘GOOD TO KNOW!

What fans didn’t consider is that the old Jeopardy! The champion currently hosts the Einstein Challenge on the History Channel.

This was pointed out in a Reddit thread with fans speculating that this may have been why the show passed to him.

“I was hoping for Buzzy, but Jost should be interesting!” one Redditor posted.

“Buzzy is signed to the History Channel. He’s hosting a game show called The Einstein Challenge,” explained another.

“Oh, that’s good to know! Thanks!” replied a third.

As such, it’s likely he won’t be able to step in to host Pop Culture Jeopardy! too, other fans theorized.

WELCOME COLIN

Fans were divided over the announcement, with some expressing disappointment that their favorite wasn’t chosen.

“So much for Mayim…” wrote a second.

Other versions of Jeopardy! have also failed over the years, such as Sports Jeopardy!.

“Ugh, I’m not a fan at all. I hope he at least stays out of the game”, complained a third.

“You might as well take a Wonder Bread and put it behind a podium,” rapped a fourth Jeopardy! viewer.

“As long as he leaves Tahiti alive,” joked a fifth fan.

“I was hoping for Buzzy, but Jost should be interesting!” she commented a sixth.

“I was hoping for Katie Nolan, but Colin will be fine,” added another.

Sony Pictures Television released a statement about Colin’s hosting gig.

“Colin’s sharp wit and intelligence epitomizes Pop Culture Jeopardy!,” said Suzanne Prete, president of game shows at Sony Pictures Television.

“He is smart and fast, like our competitors, and we know he will be able to keep up with them as he makes this new series his own. We couldn’t be happier to have him join us on this new journey.”

“We are thrilled to welcome the multi-talented Colin Jost as host of Pop Culture Jeopardy!,” added Lauren Anderson, head of brand and content innovation at Amazon MGM Studios.

“Colin’s wry affability and pop culture fluency make him uniquely qualified as the perfect host for this new iteration of the beloved franchise.”

WHAT TO KNOW

Amazon Prime Video will show Pop Culture Jeopardy! on your streaming platform.

The show will feature three main differences from the show’s original format.

Instead of answering general knowledge questions, contestants on Pop Culture Jeopardy! will answer questions about pop culture topics including music, movies, sports and TV.

Furthermore, the program will only be broadcast.

The last big change fans can expect is that there will no longer be three individual contestants competing against each other.

Instead, three teams of three will face off on the show.

The Jeopardy! describes the new iteration of the game as follows: “Competitors, playing in teams of three, will need to be experts in categories from Alternative Rock to The Avengers, Broadway to MMA, Gen Z to Zendaya.

“They compete in a tournament-style event for the grand prize and bragging rights.”

The spinoff goes into production in August and is expected to premiere in early fall.
