Danger of POP Culture! skeptics are excited to learn that the new spin-off has hired a big hitter to write its leads.

After it was announced that Colin Jost would be hosting on Wednesday, Louis appeared to share that he was part of the writing team.

“I’m a writer for Pop Culture Jeopardy! So I hope all of you potential contestants have prepared your whole life for this ,” he wrote.

Danger! fans went wild in the comments section, predicting the spinoff would live up to expectations with Real Housewives clues as tough as the show’s OG Shakespeare questions.

It also brought relief to those who wanted someone more diverse than Jost to lead the spin-off.

‘PERFECT!’

“Ah, the difficulty level is going to be serious then! Now I’m excited,” commented one fan.

“I’m so happy for you since this is the perfect writing job for you… but you could have been the Ken Jennings of this show if you were a contestant! ;)” wrote another.

“This is literally all I ever wanted,” replied a third.

“Okay, now I’m more excited to watch knowing you’re a writer,” agreed a fourth.

“Perfect! How many questions will be Karen Carpenter related?” she joked a fifth, as she’s apparently in Louis’ wheelhouse.

“Please tell us what you think about VH-1’s Rock and Roll Jeopardy, which has fed us for so many years,” asked a sixth.

Louis responded by saying he studied: “I watched every episode available!”

WHAT IS IT: A BIG GET?

Louis rose to fame after appearing in a 2015 episode of Jeopardy!.

While he was losing the game, a clip of him winning a Daily Double as The Crucible with a twist by taking victorious photos went viral.

In 2022, LGBTQ Nation named Louis one of the seven most famous LGBTQ+ Jeopardy! contestants for her 2015 appearance.

As of 2024, Louis is currently working as a writer for Jimmy Kimmel Live!.

He has also written for Billy on The Street and the Emmy Awards and has also co-hosted the podcast Keep It! since 2018.

The pop culture recapper, comedy writer, and iconic figure also competed on The Chase and Millionaire.

DANGER! JOST HOST

On Wednesday, Colin Jost was announced as host of the game show’s new spinoff, Pop Culture Jeopardy!.

The Saturday Night Live star will host the first version of the iconic quiz show exclusively on streaming, not cable.

The series has been in the works for some time. It was announced in May and will begin production this month.

Jost, currently in Tahiti covering the Olympics for NBC (where he injured his toes), will direct the tournament-style series, which is separate from the syndicated nightly Jeopardy!

Ken Jennings is the sole host of the main franchise following the firing of Mayim Bialik last December.

Jost simply said of the news, “What it is: I’m excited.”

Fans were divided by the announcement and many were disappointed that the game show didn’t cast someone more diverse.

“My thoughts: okay, sure, whatever. Bowen Yang wasn’t available?” a user X wrote.

Another person wrote on Reddit: “Might as well take a loaf of Wonder Bread and put it behind a podium.”

To which a third responded: “That was Mike Richards.”

“Ugh, not a fan. I hope he at least stays out of the way of the game,” wrote a fourth.

However, many were also excited about the decision as he is such a prominent figure.

WHAT IS IT: DANGER OF POP CULTURE?

Amazon Prime Video brought a new take on Jeopardy! which will be broadcast exclusively on the platform.

The spinoff will be called Pop Culture Jeopardy! and will feature three major changes to the format.

Instead of answering general knowledge questions like players on the standard edition of the game show, contestants will answer questions about pop culture topics like music, movies, sports, TV and more.

Additionally, the show will only be broadcast instead of broadcast on TV.

Finally, there will not be three individual contestants competing against each other. Instead, there will be three teams of three facing each other.

Danger! Universe

Danger! it first aired in 1964 until 1975. Then, the nighttime version began in 1974. Since then, many spinoffs of the game show have emerged. Here they are all:

Danger! – (syndicated) 1974 to present, weekdays on ABC at 7pm ET.

Tournament of Champions – 1984 to present, features the top champions who have appeared on the show since the last tournament.

Second Chance Tournament – 2022 to Present features hand-selected non-winners from the previous season, where the prize is entry into the Champions Wildcard.

Champions Wildcard – 2023 to present, features all one-, two-, and three-day champions from the previous season that are eligible for entry into the Tournament of Champions.

Danger! Invitational Tournament (distribution) – from 2023 to the present, features big names from the past invited by producers to compete for a place in the Masters.

Danger! Masters (primetime) – from 2023 to present, features the six Jeopardy! champions competing against each other.

Celebrity Danger! (Primetime) – From 1992 to the present, celebrities compete against each other to raise money for charity.

Pop Culture Jeopardy (streaming) – from 2024 to present, will feature teams of three in charge of pop culture trivia on Amazon Prime, hosted by Colin Jost, air date TBD

Danger! eliminated specialized tournaments, such as University Tournaments, Children’s Week and Teacher’s Tournament, to move towards a more sporting model, with the Masters being the top of the Jeopardy pyramid.

Other versions of Jeopardy! have also failed over the years, such as Sports Jeopardy!.

Jeopardy.com describes: “Contestants, playing in teams of three, will need to be experts in categories from Alternative Rock to The Avengers, Broadway to MMA, Gen Z to Zendaya.

“They compete in a tournament-style event for the grand prize and bragging rights.”
