Although her late father, Robert Kardashian, worked as a lawyer, she credited her choice to study law with criminal justice reform advocate Van Jones for his efforts to reduce the incarcerated population.
Kim revealed to Vogue: “I felt like I wanted to be able to fight for the people who paid their debts to society. I felt like the system could be so different and I wanted to fight to fix it, and if I knew more, I could do more.”
From 2019 to 2021, she studied for the Baby Bar exam, officially called the First Year Law Student Exam (FYLSX).
It’s called the Baby Bar exam because it’s something prospective lawyers will take before the actual bar exam — and they must pass it before continuing their studies.
Kim failed the exam twice, but passed the third time.
In a long post on Instagram, Kim announced the good news and thanked everyone who helped her with her studies.
The makeup icon read: “Never give up, even when you’re hanging on by a thread, you can do it!!!!! other side!”
HOW IT STARTED
Before announcing she would become a lawyer, Kim helped free Alice Johnson from a life sentence for a non-violent crime.
On May 30, 2018, the reality TV personality met with former President Donald Trump to fight on Johnson’s behalf for his future.
A week later, Trump commuted his life sentence and granted him clemency.
It was reported that Kim heard about Alice’s story on social media.
In a letter of thanks from Alice to Kim, obtained by TMZ, she thanked the star for her help.
She wrote, “Mrs. Kardashian, you are literally helping to save my life and return me to my family. I was drowning and you threw me a life jacket and gave me hope that this life jacket I’m serving may one day be removed.”
