Disney has released the first trailer for one of his highly anticipated films on August 9th.
The trailer shows the actor Rachel Zegler as the classic Disney princess with her beloved roommates, while also taking a look at Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen and Andrew Burnap as Jonathan, Snow White’s love interest in the film.
The film attracted a lot of attention during its production – and a bit of controversy. Here’s what you should know about the upcoming “Snow White” movie.
What is the release date for ‘Snow White’?
The debut of the feature film was postponed by the studio for almost a year, Variety confirmed in October 2023.
Originally scheduled to hit theaters on March 22, 2024, the live-action film will now premiere on March 21, 2025.
Rachel Zegler is bringing her musical background to the film
Zegler will play the fairytale princess Snow White, who first appeared in the Brothers Grimm’s 1812 collection of fairy tales. Zegler’s Snow White is based on Disney’s first princess, who appeared in the original 1937 animated film.
Zegler, who starred in her first Broadway, became well-known after starring in Steven Spielberg’s adaptation of “West Side Story” in 2021. She also starred in 2023 film adaptation of the “Hunger Games” prequel “The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Birds and Snakes”” as Lucy Gray Baird.
Gal Gadot plays the Evil Queen
The “Wonder Woman” actor will appear as the Evil Queen, a mirror consultant, who tries to end Snow White’s life with various stratagems.
What did Rachel Zegler say about the ‘Snow White’ remake?
THE the actor’s comments about the original animated film became the subject of considerable criticism.
During his September 2022 appearance at Disney Fan Club’s D23 Expo, the actor spoke about modernizing the classic film.
“I just want to say that it’s not 1937 anymore,” Zegler told Variety in an interview. “We absolutely wrote a ‘Snow White’ who – she’s not going to be saved by the prince and she’s not going to be dreaming of true love. She dreams of becoming the leader she knows she can be and the leader her late father told her she could be if she were fearless, fair, courageous and truthful.”
On social media, users criticized the actress for appearing in a film whose original stories she didn’t seem entirely enthusiastic about.
“Criticizing Disney princesses is not feminist. Not every woman is a leader. Not every woman wants to be a leader. Not every woman wants or craves power,” said one The TikTok user said in a video that has since racked up 10 million views.
Following his comments to Variety, Zegler became the target of criticism over his casting in the role. The actress posted on social media in July 2023 asking users to stop tagging her in posts about her casting as she shared photos of her younger self dressed as a princess.
