The exciting new visuals have fans excited for November, with some already calling it the movie of the year.

“We are gagged,” commented one person the clip.

“I speak for everyone when I say we will be watching,” wrote a second.

“The bond between Ariana and Cynthia is like no other… these movies will change lives,” said a third.

“THE MOVIE OF THE YEAR!!” a fourth said, while a fifth also noted: “MOVIE OF THE YEAR ALREADY.”

CRAZY CASTING

The film also stars Bridgerton star Jonathan Bailey as Fiyero, the conventionally attractive head of Shiz University who becomes Elphaba’s love interest.

SpongeBob the Musical star Ethan Slater plays the role of Boq, who desperately craves Glinda’s attention.

Madame Morrible is played by Oscar winner Michelle Yeoh, while Jurassic Park star Jeff Goldblum will be seen in the role of The Wizard of Oz.

Other stars included in the new film are Marissa Bode as Nessarose, Keala Settle as Miss Coddle and SNL’s Bowen Yang as Pfannee.

The second part of the highly anticipated film Wicked is scheduled for release in November 2025.

MORE DETAILS

The story is a prequel to The Wizard of Oz, with the plot beginning before Dorothy Gale arrived in Oz from Kansas.

It shows the relationship between Elphaba and Glinda after the two met at school, where Glinda tries to sabotage the green-skinned witch.

As the two develop a friendship, Glinda and Elphaba set out to meet the Wizard of Oz after she promises he will help her understand her strong powers.

The story explains how each witch got her name and how other characters from The Wizard of Oz – including the Scarecrow, the Tin Man and the Cowardly Lion – came to be.

The Broadway musical, loosely based on the 1995 novel, was nominated for 10 Tony Awards in the 2003-2004 season.

The original Broadway production starred Idina Menzel as Elphaba and Kristin Chenoweth as Glinda.

LISTENING PREVIEWS

Earlier this week, Wicked released some behind the scenes clips of Ariana and Cynthia finding out they’ve been cast in the new movie.

He also teased a few moments from the new trailer in preparation for its release on Wednesday.

The clip showed Cynthia saying she had seen Wicked on Broadway on her 25th birthday, adding that she had “never heard or seen anything like it.”

Ariana saw the original Broadway cast when she was just 10 years old and felt an immediate “bond.”

A throwback clip showed Ariana saying her biggest dream role was Glinda in Wicked.

Cynthia and Ariana’s Wicked audition tapes were shown, where Jon said he saw “an Ari he’d never seen before” and couldn’t get Cynthia “out of his head”.

The two leads were seen crying upon receiving the news that they were cast in the film.

“I never thought in my life that I would be a part of something like this,” Cynthia said.

Cynthia won the Tony Award for Best Actress for her role in the 2015 revival of The Color Purple.

In 2020, she was nominated for two Oscars for her lead role and original song in the film Harriet.

Ariana has received two Grammy Awards and has been nominated 22 times.
