If cinema has taught us anything, it’s that you can’t keep a good monster down – and with the imminent arrival of Godzilla vs. Kong: The New Empire, that lesson continues to be proven true.
As the latest installment in Legendary Pictures and Warner Bros.’ MonsterVerse, Pictures – a cinematic world that has so far encompassed five films, two TV projects and many big CGI monsters – this new project looks set to take the development of cinematic tradition even further with more teeth, claws and battles between great beasts.

Reviews for Godzilla vs. Kong: The New Empire arrived shortly before the film opened in theaters.
Digital Spy seemed to like it, calling it the most entertaining MonsterVerse episode yet and a “consistently entertaining, large-scale blockbuster.”
Others weren’t so enchanted, with The Telegraph labeling it “upsettingly boring” and Deadline saying it “feels especially Hollywoodized” after the Oscar-winning Godzilla Minus One.

Is there a trailer for Godzilla vs. Kong: The New Empire?
The latest trailer for Godzilla vs. Kong: The New Empire arrived in February and featured a number of surprises – including a mechanical battle arm and the arrival of a baby Kong.

The official trailer for Godzilla vs. Kong: The New Empire has been released by Warner Bros. in December 2023.
The trailer shows Kong’s encounter with another creature – apparently a titan – and the threat of a formidable enemy.
There’s also a tease of a team-up between Godzilla and Kong to face a mutual enemy, though it’s unclear whether this is the fearsome mysterious titan or something else.
Before that, a short teaser was shared online that confirmed the film’s title while also giving off some sinister vibes. Even though it only lasts half a minute, we already have the feeling that something big is coming to knock Godzilla and Kong off their perch. Could it be a new Titan? It certainly seems like it.
What happens in Godzilla vs. Kong: The New Empire?
Adam Wingard returns to the director’s chair for Godzilla vs. Kong: The New Empire after directing Godzilla vs. Kong. Kong, a monster mash-up movie that was a home release hit after debuting during the pandemic.
This time, our two titular Titans (the MonsterVerse’s label for giant, fight-loving creatures) will face their biggest challenge yet: a giant new creature lurking on Earth that seems ready to break free and threaten their world and ours.
According to the film’s official synopsis: “This latest entry follows the explosive confrontation of Godzilla vs. Kong with an all-new cinematic adventure, pitting the almighty Kong and the fearsome Godzilla against a colossal undiscovered threat hidden in our world, challenging their very existence – and ours.
“The epic new film will delve deeper into the stories of these Titans, their origins and the mysteries of Skull Island and beyond, while revealing the mythical battle that helped forge these extraordinary beings and bound them to humanity forever.”
Who is in the cast of Godzilla vs. Kong: The New Empire?
Characters from Wingard’s first film return for his sequel, including conspiracy theorist Bernie Hayes, played by Bryan Tyree Henry, and Titans expert Dr. Ileen Andrews, played by Rebecca Hall. Kaylee Hottle also reprises her role as Jia.
Joining them in this new adventure is Downton Abbey alum and guest star Dan Stevens. Other cast members include Marvel actor Fala Chen, Hunt For The Wilderpeople’s Rachel House and Chernobyl actor Alex Ferns.
