MERYL Streep has been linked to a sequel to The Devil Wears Prada 18 years after the original film’s release, and it’s generating backlash.
Fans of the popular film, which debuted in theaters in June 2006, don’t believe a sequel is necessary.
Several media outlets have confirmed that the sequel to The Devil Wears Prada is in the early stages, Disc News revealed on Monday.
Meryl, 75, is returning to the film, reprising her role as Runway editor Miranda Priestly.
Emily Blunt, who played Meryl’s character’s assistant, is also expected to return.
Anne Hathaway, who played Andy Sachs in The Devil Wears Prada, has not yet been confirmed.
Original producer Wendy Finerman and screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna are both attached to the film Variety reported.
There is no release date at this time.
The film’s synopsis reveals: “The groundbreaking sequence focuses on Miranda as she faces the decline of the magazine’s once-thriving publishing business.
“In fact, the only person who can rescue her is her former assistant, Blunt’s character Emily Charlton, who is now a powerful executive at a luxury fashion group.”

“I don’t think a continuation of this story is likely to happen,” she said in a March interview with AND! News.
“The reason that movie felt so special was that we were a team and we did this work, but really it’s the love that everyone put into it.”
The Idea of You star reunited with co-stars Meryl and Emily, 41, during the 2022 SAG Awards.
She noted at the time that while she may have been skeptical about reprising her role in The Devil Wears Prada, she had some idea of where the story could pick up again.
“I think Andy is in Paris and she’s writing for a wonderful French women’s magazine,” she said. AND! News.
“I think – I think she’s a copywriter and speaks fluent French. And I don’t think she’s married, but she might have a kid or two. I think she’s pretty fabulous.”
