After a slow start of 2.3 million views in its debut weekend on Netflix, viewership for Andrew Scott’s “Ripley” barely grew in its first full week of availability. The limited series reached 2.5 million views between April 8 and 14, becoming the streamer’s sixth English-language TV title of the week — low for a project of its caliber, given the talent and IP attached.
Meanwhile, “Sex and the City” slipped down the charts after debuting at No. 6 when it was added to Netflix the previous week through a licensing deal. While it may or may not be far behind this week’s tenth series, it appears that the The HBO classic didn’t reach Gen Z the way Netflix hoped — or maybe they’re just tuning into Max, where the series was already available.
The most watched title of the week on Netflix was a film, the crime documentary “What Jennifer Did,” which debuted with 18 million views in its first five days on Netflix and was followed by the live-action/animated crossover “Woody Woodpecker Goes to Camp ” with 11.8 million views in three days.
Unusually, the most-watched TV series was not an English-language project: South Korean miniseries “Parasyte: The Grey” reached 9.8 million views in its second week on the charts. Second place on that chart also surpassed the English-language winner, with the first season of German drama “Crooks” reaching 5 million views, also in its second week.
For the third week in a row, however, “3 Body Problem” was the most watched series in English, this time with 4.8 million views. “Unlocked: A Jail Experiment,” an unscripted series filmed at the Pulaski County Regional Detention Center in Little Rock, Arkansas. debuted close behind with 3.9 million views, while third place went to Guy Ritchie’s “The Gentlemen,” enjoying its sixth week on the chart with 3.7 million views.
With 3.1 million views, “Bad Dinosaurs” reached No. 4 in its third week on the charts, followed by the debut of the limited series “Baby Reindeer,” which reached 2.6 million views in three days. Season 2 of “Heartbreak High” debuted with 2.3 million views in the same period, ranking seventh.
“The Inexplicable Files” came in 8th place with 2.2 million views in its first full week of availability on Netflix, while 9th place went to “Testament: The Story of Moses” with 2.1 million views in its second full week. Rounding out the bottom of the chart was “I Woke Up a Vampire,” which reached 1.6 million views in its first full week of streaming.
