HELLBOY fans have scoffed that the first look at the new film resembles a Saturday Night Live parody and is a step back from the previous films.
Hellboy: The Crooked Man wrapped principal photography on May 15, 2024 and is scheduled to be released in theaters later this year.
The 2024 reboot features Jack Kesy as the titular Hellboy – based on the Dark Horse Comics character created by Mike Mignola.

In the comments section of the post, one fan wrote, “Hellboy looks significantly worse with each reboot.”
“This looks like it was made by a fan,” commented another.
“Is this a CW show?” asked a third, referring to the network responsible for Riverdale.
“It looks like an SNL Hellboy parody,” joked one user.
“That’s a downgrade. Ron will continue to be the real Hellboy to me,” complained a fifth.
Ron Perlman, 74, played Hellboy in Hellboy and Hellboy II: The Golden Army, directed by Guillermo del Toro.
One fan joked: “The Hellboy we have at home”, when evaluating the new actor’s makeup.
“I’ll give it a chance since the real creator of Hellboy was part of this project, but I don’t know, I have mixed feelings, we’ll see,” tweeted another.
“Hot take, I think Hellboy visually is getting better and better,” commented a third.
DISAPPOINTED AS HELL
Earlier this month, the trailer for Hellboy: The Crooked Man was released and fans were not impressed.
The trailer opened with panoramic views of trees, mountains and forests in Appalachia.

Hellboy: The Crooked Man is set in the 1950s and follows the hero and Adeline Rudolph as they try to protect the residents of Appalachia from The Crooked Man.
The Crooked Man tries to collect souls for the devil.
‘I THOUGHT IT WAS FANMADE’
As soon as the trailer was posted on X, fans immediately trashed it, stating, “I almost thought this was fan-made at first glance.”
“It looks like a fan-made trailer, but I’ll give it a try,” wrote another.
“Some Hollywood exec said, ‘Let’s make a cheap-budget horror movie with a popular IP,’” a third added.
“That looks terrible,” said another.
ABOUT THE MOVIE
In addition to Jack and Adeline Rudolph, the film also stars Yellowstone’s Jefferson White as Tom Ferrel, Leah McNamara as Effie Kolb, Joseph Marcell as Reverend Watts, Hannah Margetson as Cora Fisher and Martin Bassindale as the Crooked Man.
The Crooked Man was written by Mike and Christopher Golden and directed by Brian Taylor.
The film was shot in Bulgaria from March to May 2023.
Hellboy: The Crooked Man is the first film in the franchise since the 2019 self-titled reboot starring David Harbor in the title role.
