GREEN Day has canceled its upcoming show in Pennsylvania hours before the show was set to begin.

On Saturday, the band announced that its tour stop in Hersey, Pennsylvania, just east of the state capital, will be rescheduled for a later date in September after lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong lost his voice.

They said Billie fell ill “shortly after leaving the stage” at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia on Friday, August 9.

“Philly, you were unreal last night! Thanks for getting through the rain with us!” a message posted on Green Day’s Instagram Stories was read.

“Unfortunately, shortly after leaving the stage, Billie lost her voice and will not be able to perform at tonight’s show in Hershey.

“We’re so sorry to miss you tonight, but here’s the good news – the rescheduled date is September 2nd, so hold on to your tickets – we’ll see you then!”

The update comes hours before Green Day take the stage, with several fans complaining about the last-minute cancellation at X.

“Green Day has been cancelled,” read one comment.

Another person wrote: “NO I FOUND OUT GREEN DAY WAS CANCELED WHILE DRIVING FROM CT TO PA (and having driven from MA to CT last night).”

A third comment read: “0/2 with shows this week. I can’t believe Green Day just got cancelled.”

The band released their 14th studio album, Saviors, on January 19, 2024, shortly after announcing The Saviors Tour last November.

The tour, which kicked off in May with two shows in Spain, also celebrates the 30th and 20th anniversaries of their albums Dookie and American Idiot, respectively.

In an interview with The Sunfrontman Billie said Green Day is “the gift that keeps on giving,” adding that 2024 will be a “big year” for the band.

“We have a new album, a 30th anniversary for Dookie and a 20th anniversary for American Idiotand we’re going out on the road to play songs by all of them.

“Green Day is a gift that keeps on giving,” he continued.

Elsewhere in the interview, bassist Mike Dirnt reflected on how social media apps like TikTok and Instagram have changed the way young people discover music.

“Social media is great for kids, but if you find your music through algorithms, that’s very lazy.

“I like finding new things organically. All I can say is just clear your search history to find new shit.”

The Saviors Tour began a year later Billie surprised fans at a London pub with an improvised performance of one of the band’s most iconic songs.

The American rock star joined British group Borderline Toxic for a rousing version of Green Day’s Basket Case during a show in North London last May.

Borderline Toxic frontman Kerry Glass said BBC News: “I, at eleven years old, panicked.

“I think I made three circles just running around the stage until he [Billie] it was like, ‘Come on, sing with me.’

“It took a minute to work it out,” Kerry continued, adding, “And then I was like, ‘You know, I’m going to enjoy every second of this.’”
