Mandisa’s father, John Hundley, spoke about her death at her life service celebration at a church in Nashville, Tennessee, on April 27.

He said he has spoken to police on several occasions and has stayed at his daughter’s house since her death.

John added that Mandisa’s official cause of death would not be released for several weeks.

“But here’s what I think happened,” he said, for The Christian Post.

“Mandisa fell in her room. They found her on the floor. If you look from behind the bed, she was lying on her left side.

“Of course that was where she was lying, there were some big rugs there and some clothes. On the right side of the bed, in front, was a nightstand. I found her phone on the right side of the bed.

“There was no way for Mandisa to get around the bed, go over there and pick up a phone to call for help.

“She wasn’t hurt,” he continued.

“As she said, Mandisa loved the Lord and the Lord loved Mandisa. So there’s one thing you might not have known.

“She told me a while ago that she got Covid-19 and was weak trying to get over it.

American Idol star Mandisa opened up about battle with depression in final interviews before tragic death at age 47

“We talked a lot on Easter morning, but I thought she was going to this conference, so I haven’t called her recently, but I’ve talked to her a lot.”

“May she rest in peace now,” John concluded.

California native Mandisa — whose full name was Mandisa Lynn Hundley — was found dead in her home, her rep confirmed to The US Sun earlier this month.

“We ask for your prayers for his family and close-knit circle of friends during this incredibly difficult time,” they said.

When [my friend] passed away, shook the foundations beneath me. I sank into a deep pit of depression. I was so unhappy, I felt so hopeless

Mandisa

American Idol aired a tribute to Mandisa during Monday’s episode with the show’s alumni Colton Dixon, Danny Gokey and Melinda Doolittle.

Some fans felt the performance was too short, with one writing on X, formerly Twitter: “Well that was a good five minute tribute to Mandisa.”

The singer reached the top 10 on Idol and released her first album, True Beauty, in 2007 after her departure.

She has produced several studio albums and has been nominated for five Grammy Awards.

Christian radio network K-Love spoke about Mandisa’s “struggles” in an emotional statement following her death.

“Mandisa struggled and was vulnerable enough to share this with us, which helped us talk about our own struggles,” said K-Love media officer David Pierce.

“Mandisa’s struggles are over. She is with the God she sang about now. While we grieve, Mandisa is home.”

MENTAL HEALTH STRUGGLES

In 2011, Mandisa opened up about her struggle with depression and suicidal thoughts after her friend died of breast cancer.

“When she passed away, it shook the foundations underneath me,” said Mandisa People.

“I sank into a deep pit of depression. I was so unhappy; I felt so hopeless.”

She remembers feeling “a lot of pain” during that “dark time” and wishing she could “be in heaven with Jesus.”

Mandisa sought treatment after this worrying period.

She released her latest album, Out of the Dark, in 2017 to help people struggling with their mental health.

In April 2022, she shared that she once “tried to take my life” but was unable to do so after receiving countless texts from loved ones.
