DANCE Moms alum Nia Sioux opened up about her decision not to appear on Lifetime’s new reunion special.
The Lifetime series, which aired from 2011 to 2019, has some of its stars appearing in the new special Dance Moms: The Reunion on Wednesday night.
Nia, 22, was an original cast member on the reality show and eventually became the oldest dancer before leaving the show in season 7.
Although Nia has become one of the Abby Lee Dance Company’s most recognized dancers, she and her mother, Holly, have chosen not to film the new special.
After fans questioned her decision, the dancer shared a TikTok to clear up any rumors.
“So I’ve been getting a lot of these questions, obviously. Personally, I wasn’t going to say anything because I just don’t want to start drama,” she said on selfie clip.
Nia added that she didn’t want to seem like she was “attention seeking,” adding that she simply didn’t want “a false narrative out there.”
“I hate to tell you this, but the reason is very simple,” she said when choosing not to film the reunion.
“I really didn’t want to do it,” she said. “And that’s a good enough answer and a good enough reason.”
Nia said she feels grateful to have been on the show as a child, alluding to the fame and success that came with it.
She also said that she loves the other girls she was with on Dance Moms and was happy for them to have the chance to share their experiences in the new special.
“This is something I decided I didn’t want to do and that’s okay,” she explained.
She concluded by saying that she would possibly be open to filming another reunion show in the future, adding that this time it just didn’t feel right.
Nia’s mom appeared in the comments section of Nia’s video, writing, “Proud mom!!! Always follow her example!!”
Fellow ALDC dancer Brooke Hyland, who will appear at the reunion, also chimed in to say, “I love you.”
TOGETHER AGAIN
The reunion, which airs Wednesday at 8pm on Lifetime, will feature some of Abby Lee Miller’s former students talking about their time on the show.
Along with Brooke and her younger sister Paige, dancers Chloe Lukasiak, Kendall Vertes, Jojo Siwa and Kalani Hilliker will appear in the revealing special.
Kelly Hyland, Jessalynn Siwa, Kira Hilliker and Jill Vertes will also join their daughters.
Original cast members/sisters Mackenzie and Maddie Ziegler, however, chose not to film the episode.
WILL ABBY BE THERE?
Dance Moms boss Abby Lee, 58, will also be absent from the reunion.
Abby became a household name while leading the popular series, becoming notoriously known for her harsh comments and the “tough love” she gave her students.
While recently speaking with Juju Chang of ABC News, Abby admitted that she would take back some of her previous comments made on the show.
“No matter how hard I was on the kid, they wouldn’t understand,” Abby said first, adding that “they just didn’t have the talent.”
The studio owner said she never intended to “hurt anyone’s feelings,” saying her goal was to make her dancers the best they could be.
A source recently said People that Abby didn’t film the new reunion because some of the girls refused to open the present.
“At this point, they’ve all been through different times, they’ve had time to reflect, and Abby has put them through a lot, emotionally and physically, and they just don’t want to relive it,” the source said.
“But some of those involved decided they would only be part of the meeting if Abby was not there,” they added.
“The girls were able to speak their minds more openly without her presence.”
Dance Moms: The Reunion will air Wednesday at 8pm on Lifetime.
