Why is Katy Perry leaving American Idol?

On February 12, 2024, Katy Perry announced that she was leaving American Idol after seven seasons.

After Idol season 22, the Dark Horse singer said she plans to leave the show to focus on new music.

When discussing your decision about Jimmy Kimmel liveKaty explained: “So I think this will probably be my last season on Idol.

“I love [American] Idol so much. It connected me to the heart of America, but I need to feel the pulse of my own beat.

“I love the show so much, but I want to go and see the world and maybe bring new music.”

She added: “Well, you know, this fall, in September, I’m doing a big music festival in Brazil called Rock in Rio. It’s really exciting.

“It’s a big deal for people all over the world, especially my Brazilian fans.”

“So it’s going to be a very, very exciting year… for all the pop star girls.

“Maybe I’ll come back if they ever accept me!”

When did Katy Perry join American Idol?

On May 16, 2017, ABC revealed Katy as the new judge for the 16th season of Idol.

At the time, she told fans, “I’m honored and thrilled to be the first judge to bring back the American Idol tradition of making dreams come true for incredible talent with authentic personalities and real stories.

During the series finale, Katy performed a duet with third-place winner Jack Blocker and left fans shocked with the reveal of her giant dress, which included photos of 168 American Idol finalists from Katy’s seven seasons on the show.

“I thought a good way to honor my time here would be to put the top 24 from each season on my skirt so they would all be there,” said Katy Entertainment tonight After the show.

“It was a fun surprise because I was getting up and you were seeing more and more competitors.”

What did Katy Perry say about her co-judges?

When sharing the news about her departure, Jimmy Kimmel also mentioned Katy’s co-judges; Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan.

When he asked what their reactions would be, she admitted that they were not aware of her decision.

The pop princess has yet to pay tribute to her co-judges, but she has always had a great relationship with Ritchie and Bryan.

Host Ryan Seacrest paid tribute to Perry and the chemistry she shared with the rest of the panel.

“It was seven fantastic years with her, it’s very sad to see her go. We all know each other very, very well,” he said.

“The judges have incredible chemistry, but the show, throughout its existence, has always evolved into the next chapter and we’re going to do it again.”

The final episode of Perry’s Idol aired on May 19, 2024, when the show crowned Abi Carter as the winner of season 22.

Abi fell to the floor crying when host Ryan Seacrest announced she beat finalist Will Moseley for the crown.
