SO You Think You Can Dance has crowned the winner of season 18 and fans are not happy with the results.
Viewers accused the judges of restricting contestants in the final based on what would make better television.
The SYTYCD finale aired on Monday night and saw the top three dancers Anthony Curley, Madison Rouge Alvarado and Dakayla Wilson competing for first place.
The dancers first performed a duet with another top 10 finalist and then performed a solo if they reached the top two.
Madison chose Braylon Browner to dance to Not About You by Haiku Hands, while Anthony performed with Mariyah Hawkins to Bang by Jacob Banks and Tobe Nwigwe.
Dakayla danced to Change by Lana Del Rey with Easton Magliarditi, who was eliminated shortly before the final.
After the duets, the judges – Allison Holker, Maksim Chmerkovskiy and JoJo Siwa – eliminated one of the finalists, leaving only two.
Fans were shocked when Madison was the one eliminated from the competition.
SHOCKING RESULTS
“I had to stop watching competition shows because the hell was that,” one upset fan tweeted. “In pure fairness, Madison should have won.”
“Are you kidding me,” wrote another angry viewer. “I can’t believe Madison is third. She is a STAR!”
“I completely disagree with the judges’ decision,” said another X user (formerly Twitter) before adding that they believe Madison should have come first.
After Madison was kicked out, she was left with Anthony and Dakayla.
He performed a contemporary solo to Better Alone by Aaryan Shah, while she shared a jazz dance to A Palé by Rosalía.
In the end, it was Anthony who was announced as the winner of So You Think You Can Dance season 18.
Fans were surprised by the news, as many thought he should have come second or third, not first.
Some accused the judges of only placing Anthony in the top two with Dakayla because of the possible showmance between the two.
ALL FOR A GOOD SHOW-MANCE?
In a previous episode of the Fox series, Dakayla revealed that she had a “baby” crush on Anthony and loved that he was a “robust, strong man.”
And in turn, he called her cute during the same episode.
One of their co-stars, Jaylin Sanders, teased in the episode that Anthony and Dakayla had a lot of chemistry together as they paired up for a group dance.
“Look, I wasn’t the one who gave you this tea, but I feel like [they’re] kind of getting a little close,” Jaylin said to the cameras. “But that’s none of my business.”
Fans think the judges took all of this into consideration and thought it would make a better television story to see Dakayla and Anthony in the top two and facing off against each other.
ASKING WHAT HAPPENED
“Anthony didn’t deserve to make it to the finale’s solo, his first dance wasn’t good enough and I think they only put him in because they wanted the couple to be the 2 finalists for good TV,” one angry fan tweeted.
“So they stole Madison because of this stupid lovers angle,” another fan wondered. “Because Anthony should have been third and they knew it. But no, I can’t separate the lovers.
“Throw this entire season in the trash,” said a third angry X user. “Madison and Dakayla were robbed!!”
“Let’s see if Anthony and Dakayla’s showmance will continue now that the show is over,” asked another fan. “I’m sure if they do like #sytycd used to do, there could be a ride for them to enjoy as a couple.”
