MANY Eamonn Holmes fans couldn’t imagine him with anyone other than his wife and co-host Ruth Langsford.

But surprisingly, Eamonn – who is reportedly swapping ITV for GB News – was married before meeting Ruth.

Who is Eamonn Holmes’ first wife Gabrielle?

Gabrielle Holmes is the first wife of iconic presenter Eamonn Holmes.

The pair met in the summer of 1976 and fell in love.

But they split in 1996. Not much is known about Gabrielle other than the details Eamonn revealed.

The host said he and Gabrielle are now in an “amicable divorce.”

He said: “Gabrielle will always be in my life because she is the mother of three of my children.

“I’m convinced now that there will always be a closeness between us, like a brother and sister thing. I’ll always be there for her, and I assume she’ll always be there for me, and we’ll both always be there for the kids. and they will never feel uncomfortable, for example, sitting at the table with mom and dad, talking about things.

“Now we go on vacation together, we go to the movies together and it’s all a tribute to Gabrielle and a tribute to me – and, most important of all, our children are happy.”

Why did Eamonn and Gabrielle get divorced?

Eamonn separated from Gabrielle in 1996 after ten years of marriage.

Eamonn addressed his divorce from Gabrielle in his book.

He wrote: ‘Gabrielle was increasingly aloof and I didn’t know why. I needed her close, I needed her to reach me and ease my pain, but she had her own worries, the main one being an imminent birth.’

“That was the first time I realized that there wasn’t that emotional support for me, even though I probably suspected that,

“At that point, we used to stay apart during the week because of my work, and I didn’t have a problem with that – although Gabrielle obviously did.

“I always believed that absence would make the heart grow fonder and, in fact, the displacement increased my despair for her, made the time less bearable and longer. But it gave my wife a life of her own, with the children, and on the weekends. I was getting into it, you know.”

Eamonn first met his now-wife Ruth in 1997 in his role at GMTV.

They chose to take their relationship slowly to be sensitive to Gabrielle and Eamonn’s children.

Eamonn and Ruth married in 2010 and share a son called Jack, who was born in 2002.

Did Eamonn and Gabrielle have children?

Eamonn shares three children with Gabrielle: Declan, Rebecca and Niall.

The Irish presenter’s son Declan, 32, is expecting his first child with his wife Jenny in July 2021.

Eamonn announced the happy news in April 2021.

He wrote: “Declan is my eldest son, he is 32, and this is Jenny, his loving wife and they have just announced that I – along with Valerie and Robin [Jenny’s parents] and Gabrielle [Declan’s mother] We’ll all be grandparents!”

Eamonn appears to be close to all of his children, but the family has been kept apart due to the Covid pandemic.

In a heartfelt message in May 2020, Eamonn lamented the fact that they could not get together as a family.

He wrote: “The Holmes gang.

“I miss the bones of this group. I miss the meetings, most of all, I miss the laughter and jokes.

“But the priority is that we all stay safe. I’m looking forward to the next Zoom night, kids. Family = everything… well after @manchesterunited, which thankfully also brings us together.”
