SURVIVOR producers have released details about Survivor’s 50th season after critics called the latest episodes “unwatchable.”

CBS just aired season 46, but is looking ahead to its next landmark season.

The show’s final season ended with Kenzie Petty being crowned the winner.

Although Survivor’s 50th anniversary is a few seasons away, the network is already planning.

“We’re already talking about the 50th season of Survivor,” said CBS Entertainment President Amy Reisenbach. Deadline.

“We just finished season 47 in Fiji. I was texting Jeff [Probst] last night and he said something very epic was caught by surprise.

“I think this show can go on for a long time.”

She promised fans that CBS has big plans in store for season 50 and will go all out.

“We will absolutely be celebrating and I would consider it a year-long celebration of sorts. We do that really well at CBS,” she said.

“We will have a lot of plans in the works… It will be the first time in the new era that we will have returning players.”

“This is really exciting,” concluded Amy.

Jeff, 62, for his part, told fans to expect season 50 in the spring of 2026.

PROBLEM

The news comes after Survivor viewers demanded the longtime host be fired from the show.

In May, fans cited several issues and called season 46 “unwatchable.”

Writer Brian Moylan was one of the most vocal, calling the show’s final season an “absolute mess” in a new Article about vulture.

He pointed to the “new era” of the competitive series as the reason for the decline in quality, adding that it is an experiment that has “overstayed its welcome.”

All about survivor

Fans have tuned into Survivor for over two decades. The program debuted in 2000 and continues to air. Each season brings with it new twists.

  • Survivor premiered in May 2000
  • Jeff Probst has hosted the show since its inception
  • Survivor was filmed all over the world
  • Seasons were filmed in Malaysia, Australia, Kenya and more

The journalist also suggested that in addition to moving away from the current style of play, Jeff’s time as presenter should end.

Jeff has hosted Survivor since 2000.

Brian wrote in his article that as of 2010, Jeff’s duties have gone far beyond hosting, noting that he serves as executive producer and showrunner.

He added that while he’s “not designing every challenge or reading resumes to hire cameramen,” he’s the one green-lighting every new twist, casting decision, and format change.

The writer noted that if the show runs into trouble, as he believes, Jeff should have his “torch snuffed out.”

The article was shared on X, where Survivor fans shared their own thoughts.

“Russel Hantz was the worst thing to happen to Survivor, because he made Jeff Probst fall in love with strategy by numbers (vote count) and strength (idols, advantages), instead of strategy by social skills (like Parv, Cirie, Hatch did),” one fan wrote.

“He has ALWAYS valued what I call the more ‘masculine’ game – winning challenges, finding idols – and that drives me crazy,” Brian responded.

“Great article, I mostly agree. One thing I really can’t figure out with the new era: women and BIPOC players are finally winning, so the mechanics are doing something to unlock the potential. This is because of the decisions Probst is making taking? Why then might he need at least some credit?”

“I think the most important reason [people of color] are winning is that CBS has mandated that 50% of all casts be POC. That’s the network’s decision, not Probst’s,” Brian responded.

A third commenter chimed in, adding: “a correct approach.”

“There’s a reason why 46 is such a refreshing post-merge season, because none of the idols, twists, or perks ever got in the way of the actual cast and their interactions/gameplay. The article is so right that Probst never understood Survivor in the many years it was hosted,” a fourth person commented.

STAY

It doesn’t look like Jeff is going anywhere, though.

He’s been teasing plans for season 50 for some time now, signaling that he plans to be with the series up to that point.

In April, Jeff made a decision about the milestone season.

He shared a video of himself on Instagram at the Survivor For Your Consideration event at Ovation Hollywood in Los Angeles, California.

“Okay. 10 seconds ago, we decided, thanks to all the fans at the FYC event here in Hollywood, that Survivor 50 will return players,” he said.

He then turned the camera to the crowd and said, “And you are all part of this.”

Variety was at the event and shared even more information about what was said.

“Survivor 50 is coming. The truth is we really focused on 47 and 48, that’s what we’re going to shoot next,” Jeff said, according to the outlet.

“So we have to shoot for 49. But we know 50 are coming, so I’m curious, is there any feeling? Should 50 be another season with new players and not make it a big deal?

Most of the audience shouted back, “No.”

“In the spirit of sometimes letting the game be in the hands of the fans, I feel like — and there are some people at CBS right now saying, ‘Oh my God, what’s going on?’” Jeff said.

“I feel like we should just commit and make this the moment we decide Survivor 50 will return players.”

Jeff then turned to executive producer Matt Van Wagenen to confirm that his decision was correct.

Matt nodded.

“I don’t know what’s going to happen after this, but I’m pretty sure we’re committed,” Jeff said, later making it official on Instagram.

Survivor brought back players who returned in Season Eight and Season 40.
