BAR Rescue host Jon Taffer has revealed the short notice he has to plan an overhaul of the show’s ownership.
The TV personality is known for turning around failing restaurants and bars to keep his businesses from going out of business, as documented on the reality show.
In an interview with Us WeeklyJon, 69, shared his process of getting a restaurant back into shape, and it’s exactly how it looks on screen.
“We take the employees and owners, put them in vans in the parking lot, and I go in and design the bar that night,” the reality star explained, which he says involves bringing in carpenters, a crew, and researching key demographics. in the area.
“I have about a half hour to come up with a concept,” Jon added of the first day’s schedule.
Jon also revealed that viewers learn about the business at the same time as he does, as he is typically left in the dark.
“I’m never ahead of them, so it provides a certain authenticity, I’m not sure if all these things [other] shows yes”, observed the restaurant owner. “My audience is very intelligent and I never try to fool them.”
SURPRISE VISIT
However, he has several surprises for the restaurant owner and the employees he helps, as they don’t know he’s coming.
“The cameras come in about a day and a half before I get there. [The staff] they are told that I am going to a bar in that city and that it is either them or another bar,” Jon revealed.
“Sometimes I show up a day early, just to catch them with their pants down, so to speak.”
Jon further explained that catching the team off guard allows him to see that they are not on their best behavior and prevents strangers from appearing on camera.
“I have to be sneaky to keep it real,” the New York native added.
Bar Rescue airs its 250th episode Sunday at 10pm on Paramount Network.
The show premiered in July 2011 on the USA network before moving to the streaming platform.
It is currently airing its ninth season of the series, in which Jon is the creator and executive producer, and this has led to him becoming a sought-after restaurant owner for struggling businesses.
