Katy Perry announced last season that she would not return so she could focus on her music career and touring.

ABC is looking for a replacement for Katy, but they may be looking for an entirely new cast in season 23.

“It’s been interesting,” said Luke, 47, billboard.

“It’s been something that Disney has been very tight-lipped about with Lionel and me. [Richie] and Ryan [Seacrest].”

“We currently haven’t heard what the story is about who is coming back and whether Lionel and I will be back,” he continued.

“I think Disney is just trying to figure out what they want to do and we’re just sitting back and waiting until they decide.”

Luke, Lionel, 75, and Katy, 39, have been judges on American Idol since the show was revamped on ABC for its 16th season.

Ryan, 49, has been the host since the first season.

REPLACEMENT FOR KATY?

Even though Luke doesn’t know about her Idol fate, he still offered some suggestions about who he’d like to replace Katy.

“I said several names. I think P!nk is in talks, Miley Cyrus is in talks, Meghan Trainor is in talks,” he told Billboard.

P!nk, 44, said Entertainment tonight that she would not be interested in the work because she “doesn’t want to hurt people’s feelings.”

Meghan, 30, expressed that she would love to be a judge on the show.

During a June appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, the singer said judging Idol would be her “dream job.”

“I did every interview in the world and said this is my dream job and I emailed three amazing people who work in that world,” Meghan revealed.

She added, however, that these people “don’t actually have a full voice, but I begged them to.”

A pageant source told The US Sun that executives are eyeing Miley, 31, for the role.

Other names like Adele and Kelly Clarkson were thrown into the ring.

However, Kelly, 42, said Entertainment tonight that Idol would not be a good option for her.

“No. No. I can’t do that, just because I promised my kids. I was like, ‘I want to be there as much as I can,” she told the outlet.

“And that would put me in Los Angeles, which is why I had to leave The Voice, because I love that team. And I miss them so much.”

Kelly moved her talk show, The Kelly Clarkson Show, to New York this season.

THE ONE THAT GOT AWAY

Before season 22 began, Katy made the shocking announcement that she would not return in 2025.

she told the crowd and the host of Jimmy Kimmel Live!.

“This fall, in September, I’m doing a big music festival in Brazil called Rock in Rio,” Katy said without warning.

“So I think this will probably be my last season on Idol.”

As the crowd gasped, the singer added, “I mean, I love Idol so much.

“It connected me to the heart of America, but I need to feel the pulse of my own beat.”

Jimmy asked her what her fellow judges thought of her decision and she said they would find out when they watched the interview.

Luke also said that host Ryan Seacrest, who has been with the show since season one, hasn't heard about his fate either.
