ABC’s longest-running television entertainment program in history came under fire when they announced the latest staff change.

General Hospital recently got rid of one of its head writers, which left fans upset.
Patrick Mulcahey, who took over after the departure of screenwriters Chris Van Etten and Dan O’Connor, has officially left the writing staff, according to Deadline.
Elizabeth Korte also joined Patrick, but is now the show’s only remaining writer.
She has been on the program since 1992, with the soap opera first airing in 1963.

Patrick joined in 1996 and wrote several successful episodes of General Hospital.
He finished his final episodes, which he co-wrote with Elizabeth.
Its final episodes will air mid-summer.
Fans flocked to X, formerly Twitter, when they heard the news and expressed their concerns about the future of the show.
“This show is doomed,” wrote one.
“Bad move. Korte and the EP are still there so the bad narrative will continue. They didn’t even give Patrick a chance to change things,” another added.
“Just to be clear – they brought in a VERY talented writer who understands soap operas and writes well for female characters, but let him go and reinstate the people he was trying to clean up?!” said a third.
“How is this not for Frank? #GH Patrick Mulcahey and GH viewers deserve better.”
“To say I was excited about Patrick Mulcahey’s return is an understatement. I knew there was no writer more capable of fixing @GeneralHospital than PM,” noted a fourth.
“It’s very obvious that @valentinifrank and @nathanvarni wouldn’t give Patrick the space to be great. Enjoy your record lows,” they concluded.
I QUIT!
This isn’t the first time General Hospital has changed staff, with a cast member recently leaving.
Nicholas Alexander Chavez, 24, announced on social media earlier this month that he has stopped playing Spencer Cassadine on General Hospital.
“I’m so grateful for the opportunity GH has given me and I wouldn’t be as busy as I am professionally if it weren’t for the talented producers, writers, directors and fellow actors,” he tweeted.
However, the soap opera actor joked that he could return to the program in the future.

“[Executive Producer] Frank Valentini is a mentor and friend, and we’ve had some pretty extensive conversations about my future on the show,” he added.
“While there are no current plans for my return, we are still talking openly about future possibilities for Spencer in Port Charles.”
During its final episode, Spencer apparently died after being injected with a deadly drug.
