Who plays Spencer on General Hospital?

Spencer Cassadine on General Hospital is played by Nicholas Chavez.

Born on September 6, 1999, in Houston, Texas, Chavez wanted to play football because he came from a family of athletes.

However, during his junior year of high school, Chávez joined the theater department and decided to pursue a career in acting.

Chávez attended Rutgers University’s Mason Gross School of the Arts for two years.

Before the Texas actor received his breakout role as Spencer Cassadine on the soap opera General Hospital, he worked at a car dealership in Florida.

In 2022, Chávez booked a gig in the Tubi film Original Crushed alongside Mean Girl’s Bebe Wood.

When was Nicholas Chavez cast as Spencer Cassadine?

Nicholas Chavez was cast as Spencer Cassadine in 2021, taking over the role from Nicolas Bechtel.

Less than a year after joining the cast of General Hospital, Chavez took home the Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Younger Performer in a Drama Series.

Speaking with People on his journey to receiving an award, Chavez said: “Twelve months before receiving this award, I was selling cars in Florida, so it was a paradigm shift of epic proportions.

“It was very, very surreal to stand on that stage and be recognized for what I am more passionate about than anything else in life.

“It was a true dream come true and I am incredibly grateful – and still now, months later, frankly in disbelief.”

Although Chavez attributed his success to General Hospital, he left the soap opera to pursue a starring role in the Netflix anthology series Monster.

The first season saw Evan Peters play Jeffrey Dahmer in a dramatized version of the serial killer case.

Season two will focus on the Menendez brothers, with Chávez playing Lyle Menendez.

What did he say about playing Spencer?

Since Chavez was recast, it took a while for General Hospital fans to learn to love Spencer’s new face.

“Some fans didn’t like me at first because I’m a recast. There was an actor who played my character before me,” Chavez told People.

“You know I was a little inexperienced at first. I think people were seeing that. Then online, people would say, ‘I like the old actor who played Spencer better.'”

However, that hasn’t stopped the actor from keeping his role, as he said he now receives mostly positive reviews for his performance.
