DAYS of Our Lives has undergone a major change ahead of the soap opera’s 60th anniversary.
Ron Carlivati, who has served as head writer on the long-running soap opera for the past seven years, is parting ways with the show.
Carlivati, whose departure is effective immediately, is being replaced by writers Paula Cwikly and Jeanne Marie Ford, according to Deadline.
Its episodes, however, will continue to air until April 2025.
“We look forward to celebrating our 60th anniversary next year, with Paula and Jeanne Marie at the helm and new, exciting stories that we know fans will embrace,” executive producer Ken Corday wrote in a statement about Carlivati’s departure.
He continued, “We wish Ron nothing but the best and thank him for his dedication and the respect he has shown to me, the cast and the legacy of the show.”

While there wasn’t much word on what the future holds for the longtime Days of Our Lives writer, Carlivati has previously extended stints on One Life to Live and General Hospital.
The former head writer’s team won a Daytime Emmy in 2008 for their work on One Life to Live.
Substitute writers Cwikly and Ford have considerable experience writing novels between them.
Cwikly worked as an associate and head writer on Days of Our Lives in the early 2000s – her soap opera credits also include As the World Turns, Sunset Beach and O Young and the Restless.
Ford, who has written for As the World Turns and One Life to Live, was a writer for Days of Our Lives before the promotion.
