GENERAL Hospital fans have been agitating for a villain from the show to be removed from the series because of its insipid and unoriginal plot.

After ABC shared a preview of Wednesday night’s episode on Instagram, several users declared it was time for the writers to get rid of the character of Special Agent John Cates (Adam J Harrington).

Agent Cates, formerly called Jagger, was first introduced on the ABC soap opera in the nineties.

The role was first played by Antonio Sabato Jr. from 1992 to 1995, and then in 2008 on General Hospital: Night Shift.

The role was recast when the character of Agent Cates returned to Port Charles from San Francisco in February this year, with the 51-year-old Canadian actor taking his place.

The trailer for Wednesday night’s episode was accompanied by a caption that read: “TODAY ON #GH… Blaze and Kristina sit down for an intense interview with Perez Hilton. Additionally, Nina crosses paths with Ava and Carly recoils at Jason’s new plan. “

However, fans were less than impressed and called on producers to write Jagger out of the show.

“Cates needs to go now,” one fan commented.

Another person wrote: “They can leave John Cates [sic] character now. Such a boring story that it’s dragging on.”

“No more Cates. Please, more Tracy and Ned!” a third comment read.

A fourth viewer declared the season “dragged,” adding, “Cates is not attractive and is just looking for revenge.”

Another fan said they “will not support this show today as long as you have that man there.”

Referring to the episode, one Instagram user said he “turned it off,” while another said he “hopes these stories end soon.”

Another person predicted: “A lot of people said things to Jagger about wanting him to ‘disappear.’ It will be a ‘who done it’ if they kill him. [rolling eyes emoji]”.

Some wondered if the show’s producers “even read fan comments” after previous episodes drew similar criticism over recent plot twists.

Viewers have been calling for Cates’ character to be cut for some time, with one person previously writing, “Cates’ storyline is tired. I started rewatching since 2013 and the storyline isn’t as entertaining as it was back then.”

General Hospital recently revealed a cast shakeup, with the soap’s creators bringing back two fan-favorite characters in an attempt to revive ratings.

This week, the characters of Asher Antonyzyn, Danny Morgan and Diane Miller, played by Carol Hennesy, returned to the General Hospital universe.

In addition to reviving the characters of Asher and Carol, something new should also shake things up in Port Charles.

Earlier this week, it was announced that actor Dutch-Barre Johnson will make his debut as the new warden of Pentonville Prison.

He previously appeared on the show as an extra in 2006 and again in 2012.

Recently, Michael Easton reflected on how his character, Dr. Hamilton, was abruptly written off after eight years on the show.

The soap star said he was “hurt and hurt” by his departure, adding that the last few weeks of filming were “very raw and draining” because the writers crammed so much material into a short space of time.

“I appreciate the writers who gave me so much material, but from an actor’s point of view, I wish I had had a little more time to add a little more subtlety and a little more nuance to it,” he said. Summary of the novel.
