EUPHORIA star Hunter Schafer has spoken out about the hit US drama’s uncertain future and admitted it “will be difficult” to turn back.
Although a third season of Euphoria has been confirmed, it may not be that simple. “The real problem is that a lot has happened,” Hunter joked.
The popular show first premiered in Max. in 2019. The second series was released in early 2022, and fans have been clamoring for more episodes ever since.
But this long wait has left Euphoria’s fate up in the air.
Although a third series is in the works, star Hunter, 25, who plays Jules Vaughn, isn’t convinced it will actually happen – or if she will return for it.
During his recent appearance on Alex Cooper’s show Call her daddy podcast, Hunter admitted he has “no idea what’s going on” with series 3, saying: “You can literally ask the entire cast. The real issue is that a lot has happened.”
The cast and crew experienced behind-the-scenes turmoil following the tragic death of their co-star and friend Angus Cloud, who passed away last year at the age of 25.
Now, Hunter isn’t sure if she — or the show — should move forward without him.
“I think everyone feels a certain expectation about whether we should do a season three,” she explained.
Hunter continued: “Obviously I still have questions about what happened and about losing people that we really loved and were part of this family and everything. If we go back, it will be difficult.”
She added that returning for a third series could be a way of paying homage to Angus, but she is not convinced.
“I think there’s a world in which we can channel that to make Season 3 beautiful — if that’s even supposed to happen, but I think it’s really left everyone confused,” she said.
It was previously announced that production on the third series of Euphoria would begin in 2025. There’s also the added pressure of working around the busy schedules of the show’s rising stars when filming resumes.
However, no one has dropped out so far and the main cast is expected to return for series 3. Alongside Hunter, it includes Zendaya, Sydney Sweeney, Jacob Elordi, Storm Ried, Maude Apatow, Alexa Demie and Eric Dane.
Some of Hunter’s other co-stars have expressed their excitement about returning for a new season of Euphoria, which will be set five years after the last episode, with the characters now out of high school.
Sydney, 26, who plays Cassie Howard, said The Hollywood Reporter that she’s excited to see what’s next for her character.

“We had a lot of time between seasons one and two, but especially now with the time jump, it’s a new process for me. [But] I’m just learning as I go and I’m open to what’s to come.
“I’m also very excited. I love Cassia. She’s always an exciting character to play, so I’m really looking forward to what’s going to happen in her life,” she said.
However, it is unclear whether Euphoria will continue after series 3.
Speaking about plans for the show’s future, Casey Bloys, HBO’s chief content officer, said TV Line“I will let [executive producer] Sam [Levinson] and Zendaya talk about [that].”
But he teased: “I’m really excited about what they have planned [for season 3]. So I’ll leave that to them. I will say, generally speaking, we trust where they want to take these characters. So let’s let the creative team lead the way.”
Euphoria Seasons 1 and 2 are available to stream on Max in the US and NOW in the UK
