On Sunday, the streamer released the initial teaser for the next season of Squid Game.

The teaser trailer focused almost entirely on actor Lee Jung-jae, 51, as the series’ main character, Seong Gi-hun.

He stood against a black background while wearing one of the show’s iconic green jumpsuits.

Other players were also included in the trailer, the camera focusing only on the contestant’s number without revealing their identities.

In the final moments of the teaser, a serious Seong Gi-hun turns and faces the camera before the tagline “The Real Game Begins” fills the screen.

It ended with The Squid Game 2 logo being revealed along with the show’s Netflix air date of December 26th.

The teaser was posted on X, formally Twitter.

Fans weighed in on the season 2 release date in the post’s comment thread.

One person tweeted: “I’ve already forgotten all about the first season. Why did it take so long?”

“It took a long time. We don’t want that,” agreed another.

“3 years…” recalled a third, while a fourth said: “Too late, we don’t care anymore.”

Viewers were then able to see a small podium with the mysterious character Front Man (Lee Byung-hun) entering the scene.

He oversees the Squid Game and when chaos broke out among the halls, he was flanked by four of his pink-suited henchmen.

He said in Korean, “It’s been three years. Do you want to play again?”

The show’s success spawned a reality show called Squid Game: The Challenge.

Recently, actor Lee Jung-jae teased what fans can expect from season 2.

In an interview with RadioTimes, Lee admitted: “I think the script for season 2 is even more interesting than season 1, and there will be a new set of characters too.

“So I think the audience is going to be really excited about it.

“One thing I felt when reading the script is that there’s an even deeper emotion uncovered in season two, and I also think the audience is going to feel like, ‘Where is this story going?’

“Because there are so many twists and turns that happen.”
