NETFLIX has been criticized for its decision to release Cobra Kai season 6 in three separate installments.
The network recently revealed that Cobra Kai’s final season will have an extended goodbye, with its final block of episodes scheduled to air in 2025.
The 15-episode season will release its first five episodes on July 18, while the next five will be available on November 28.
Netflix has released a new teaser for the sixth and final season of the series, which shows characters Daniel LaRusso and Johnny Lawrence preparing their students for the renowned Sekai Taikai tournament.
The latest clip suggests the alliance between the menacing John Kreese and Kim Dae-uen to resurrect Cobra Kai.
WRONG DECISION?
The trailer was shared on X, formerly Twitter, where fans have weighed in on the release of the finale.
“I love this show, but for Netflix to exploit it so much is super desperate,” one person wrote.
“You kill the hype with your ‘3 part event’. Instead, you should just put out episodes weekly,” said a second.
“What a frustrating and annoying way to launch a season,” added a third.
“More than six months of waiting to watch the finale. Yep, great move, Netflix,” said a fourth.
“Are three parties really necessary? Just give us everything,” asked another.
“Breaking Bad is the only show that has ever justified this type of strategy in the final season. It really is a horrible decision,” said another person.
Others questioned whether Netflix has similar plans for other series entering their final seasons, including sci-fi hit Stranger Things.
The network announced in 2022 that Stranger Things would end after Season 5, which is currently underway.
MORE CANCELLATIONS
In November 2023, Netflix revealed a few more fan-favorite show cancellations.
Despite the end of the SAG-AFTRA strike, the streamer was unable to save dramas Shadow and Bone and Glamorous, as well as adult cartoons Agent Elvis, Captain Fall and Farzar.
“It is unlikely that any of the five canceled shows would have returned to Netflix screens before the end of 2024 (if not 2025)” The Hollywood Reporter explained.
Months earlier, fans were devastated to find out that hit show You was ending.
“Goodbye… YOU. Joe Goldberg will return for the fifth and final season of YOU in 2024,” the show posted on X last March.
“I’m literally crying like tears are building up in my eyes,” one person wrote in response.
“Cobra Kai, Stranger Things, Flash etc….and now YOU. All my shows coming to an end,” said another.
Other recently canceled shows include the Sarah Paulson-led series Ratched, which initially had a two-season order.
The Obliterated series, created by Cobra Kai’s Jon Hurwitz, Hayden Schlossberg, and Josh Heald, is also not being renewed after its short run last year.
